このクラスで学べること

Kids who love animals, never get tired of talking about them. They never get tired of learning about them. Most fun of all, they never get tired of drawing them.

My new animal drawing club is going to vary from my usual format to be EVEN MORE FUN. I’ve had numerous requests for specific animal drawing class, so I’ve tried to incorporate those here. Each meeting, we will start with a guided drawing exercise where I teach you to draw the specific animal. Once we draw our character, we will then come up with ideas for things to add to our drawing to create a unique nature illustration. All learners will be invited to contribute their ideas so that we will have a fantastic collaborative experience and beautiful piece of art by the end of class. I have found that even when learners come to class without ideas, they leave brimming over with them, and ready to keep drawing. Have no fear tho, any learner who prefers to draw quietly without offering ideas is also welcome!

The art style we will explore in this club is what I call “doodle style.” I think of this fun style as a mixture of my two favorite styles, folk and kawaii! It’s a style that creates compelling artwork but is easy for all art skill levels to master. The sky will be the limit for things we could add to our illustrations. The club will be segmented into different types of animals such as forest, desert, farm, ocean, and jungle. So there could be SO MANY things from nature, more animals, plants, buildings, and people we could add to these drawings. If a learner attends every meeting, they will come away with an INCREDIBLE series of artwork to be proud of.

However, this club is going to be an “ongoing” format, which means that your learner can stop coming at any time and you will no longer have to pay. Zoom fatigue can certainly be a thing, so I’m not making it necessary to attend or pay for every meeting.

In addition to exploring a new art style, sparking creativity, collaborating with our imaginations, and making friends around the world, I will also provide additional resources in the classroom after each meeting. I will provide illustrated guides of the focus animal each week, plus a specially designed coloring page slash information sheet about the animal, made exclusively for this group. I will also pop into the classroom with bonus content and extra drawing videos for learners periodically!

Another goal of this program will be to take full advantage of the awesome features of the Outschool platform. Even when our live meetings are not in session, kids and/or parents can access the virtual classroom where they can talk and share ideas with me, and with one another! Between sessions, I will start brainstorming conversations and I will also invite kids to post their finished art pieces in the classroom for all to admire. We will only do a pencil sketch in class, so I would like to see what they choose to color their illustrations with after class. I will be talking with them about color selections, and I would love to see them push themselves to try a variety of different mediums over the course of our club. Digital artists are also welcome. I use Procreate for iPad to demonstrate the drawing instructions. With parent permission, I will share their artworks on my social media so they can see other people showing them love for their work!

I am increasing the age range slightly for this class. The reason is that it gives the older, more advanced artists an opportunity to flex their art skills and be inspiring to the younger artists. The animals themselves will be fairly simple to draw, but since the meetings will be largely student led, artists of all skill levels will be able to choose things to add to our drawings. Therefore, we can all be successful together!
