このクラスで学べること

**Please note that this class is not to teach your learners Spanish but for them to have an immersive experience in the Spanish language. This is a Spanish immersion session for bilingual speaking learners, heritage speakers, or dual-language learners and it is taught in Spanish**

Let's travel to Puerto Rico!

The camp will be completely in Spanish. This is a Spanish immersion camp for bilingual-speaking learners, heritage speakers, or dual-language learners that understand and can follow prompts in Spanish.

This will be a 4-day project-based immersive language class. Each day we will work on a different theme and learners will follow prompts in Spanish. This is a hands-on learning activity. Learners will have the opportunity to talk in Spanish and participate in engaging conversations throughout the class.

Day 1: History and geography - students will learn about the Puerto Ricans' ancestry: Taíno, African and Spanish heritage. They will learn where Puerto Rico is located on the map as well as the continent of Africa and Spain. They will learn to make a taíno petroglyph.
Materials needed: various small rocks or pebbles, or oval-shaped brown or beige construction paper.

Day 2: Music - learners will make their very own "maracas" and "pandero".
Materials needed: empty water bottle, different color permanent markers, stickers, 1/4 c. dried beans, rice, or small pebbles. Paper plates.

Day 3: Animals - learners will make their very own Puerto Rican parrot
Materials needed: white paper plate, or a pre-cut circle of the same size, crayons, markers, different color construction paper, glue stick, and scissors.

Day 4: Wrap-up and game time - we will discuss what we learned about Puerto Rico and play a game of bingo.
Materials needed: a print-out of the bingo game (that I will provide).

Upon enrollment, you can access the list of the supplies and the recipe from the classroom page. Bingo card games will be posted on the first day of camp.

I will be using the activity book Puerto Rico: Isla del Encanto - The Island of Enchantment by author Melissa López Charepoo
Disclaimer: I have permission from the author to use this book.

¡Hasta pronto! Hope to see you soon!
