このクラスで学べること

Have you ever wondered why some animals look different from other members of their species? Albino animals are extremely rare and unique. They display many of the characteristics of other members of their species but appear different due to their lack of pigmentation. Different from other animals, they are unable to produce melanin, which creates the normal pigmentation and coloring in an animal’s fur, scales or skin. This lack of melanin in many cases makes the animal appear bleached all over, appearing white or pink. In addition to their skin, albino animals often exhibit red or pink eyes, which makes them even more extraordinary.

In this class, students will discover albino animals from all over the world. They will learn about their differences from other animals in their species as well as some of the struggles they endure.

Week 1: What makes an animal an albino
Week 2: Marine albino animals
Week 3: Albino animals in the rainforest
Week 4: Albino animals found in praries and grasslands

Students will have the opportunity to use nearpod, an interactive software program that allows students to answer questions, take virtual field trips, and collaborate with other students.

教師の専門知識と資格
I have been working as a private tutor for grades 5-12 in Science and English since 1999. I also worked as student mentor to post doctoral and summer student fellows for over ten years while I worked as a Research Chemist in marine & geochemistry at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. During my work there, I had the opportunity to become an author in a text book on high resolution mass spectometry and as well as being part of a documentary on the Discovery Channel. Previous to my work at Woods Hole, I worked as a chemical technician in a local environmental lab working on land and water pollution. During the summer, I also was blessed with the most incredible opportunity of working as a naturalist on a whale watch boat. Following my time working in research, I owned and operated a childcare for over 7 years where I taught preschool and tutored grade school children in the afternoon. I earned my B.S. in Cellular/Molecular Biology with a minor in Biochemistry from Bridgewater State University in 2000 and a M.S. in Education in 2015 from Walden University. Currently I am working on my M.S. in Biology with a specialization in Environmental Sciences from the University of Nebraska, Kearney. I have loved teaching and mentoring students of all ages and am thankful to add online teaching to my experiences in education. I am a huge advocate of online learning since it has not only benefited me, but my children as well.
