***NOTE: This class covers the artistic side of photography and does NOT cover the technical aspects of using your camera. Assignments can be done using your camera’s Auto Mode or your phone if necessary, but this class is also an excellent followup for students who have already taken an introductory DSLR class. Photography is SO MUCH MORE than just pointing your camera at something and clicking the button. Skilled photographers don’t just TAKE photos, they CREATE photos. Have you already been told you have a “good eye for photography.” That’s awesome! Let’s help you develop that eye further.

In this class, we’ll spend five days learning why some photos are much more powerful than others and studying the concepts photographers use to achieve that success. We’ll look at general guidelines for creating awesome images, investigate the classic rules of photographic composition such as the rule of thirds, and will also explore the impact lighting has on an image.

My goal is that by the end of the class students will be able to look at a photo and identify what the photographer did to make that photo special. Students will also learn how to create more impactful photos themselves.

The first four sessions will each include a homework assignment based on the concepts we learned that day. Learners will send their completed photo assignments to the teacher and are encouraged, but not required, to share their work with the class.
