There is no prior experience required for this fun class! If you love animals and are interested in learning more about cattle, then this class is for you. Don't worry if you join us late, because we focus on a different breed each week and I will be sharing the class materials with everyone so you can still learn about any breed that you missed. In this 6 week course, we will dive into past, present and future of the 6 dairy cattle breeds of the United States. We will discuss their genetic traits like milk production, components, reproduction, and overall efficiency. Over the course of the 6 weeks we will look at all of the dairy breeds, cover dairy cattle judging, genetics and end with an introduction to dairy cattle management. Teaching format will be powerpoint presentations with slides, there will be a few video clips and class discussion time. We will have a game on the last day of class as we try to determine which breeds are each other's favorites!

Students will improve their knowledge of the six dairy cattle breeds in the United States. They will be able to defend their favorite breed of dairy cow with facts! They will learn about dairy cow and heifer judging and dairy genetics. They will also get a glimpse of dairy cattle management as that will be entire classes of it's own at a later date.
