Looking to improve spelling, punctuation, parts of speech, and figurative language? Or perhaps writing essays, stories, or poetry? You've come to the right place! This ongoing class is a straight-forward approach to targeting these skills and is a full curriculum that meets Common Core and TEKS standards. Each week builds day-to-day from Monday through Friday with a different focus each separate week. For example, if "the writing process" is the focus for the week, Monday it will be...
- Learn to develop and diversify their writing
- Understand the complete writing process and apply this to their writing
- Write an essay with at least 3 complete paragraphs
- Write a complete paragraph with topic sentence and supporting details
- Understand and apply grammar rules, punctuation, capitalization
- Support their answers by using details and facts from a text
- Read and understand elements of different genres (poetry, literary fiction, non-fiction)
If a student works exclusively on a device, please make sure they can access a word processor or Google Docs in order to work on their writing. Students may also use a notebook and pencil instead (which is my personal preference!). A dictionary or thesaurus may be used for certain activities. I recommend using Merriam-Webster online for free or a physical dictionary (if there is one available at home). If you’d like to purchase a physical dictionary, they cost between $3-$10.
