This 9-week course will introduce students to the fundamentals of the scientific inquiry and engineering design processes along with aerospace science and engineering concepts that are essential for conceptualizing and designing research and a small experiment to fit inside a small plastic cube. Materials needed: (an updated list will appear in the course. Most items you will find around your house or can purchase at the dollar store with the exception of a the digital scale) -Notebook - at least composition notebook size or larger -Scissors -Tape, double-sided tape or glue stick -Ruler -Protractor (you will also be provided one you can print) -Color pencils/crayons -Color markers (optional) -Drinking straws -String/twine/yarn -Small “Dixie” cups or small styrofoam cups (not needed until week 6)* -Large helium-filled balloon (not needed until week 6)* -Access to kitchen or mail digital scale* (not needed until week 6) (Walmart and Amazon have them for around $10 with a great return policy) -Dried rice or mixed dried beans* (not needed until week 6) *Indicate a hands-on activity that is optional.
