📅 This class is comparable to my one-time and ongoing tutoring class but is designed for 4 weeks which might be more appealing to those of you using charter school funds who need multi-day courses. I love to "unstick" the mind of the reluctant writer and to motivate and organize the mind of the enthusiastic writer in this one-to-one tutoring class. Working together with parent and child I will do my best to not only teach children how to creatively write but how to get those great ideas down on paper. Writing does not have to stink! In fact, writing is one of my most favorite things in the world!

When parents tell me that their child who "hates to write" is writing now after taking my class, it makes me so happy!
Think of me as an aide working alongside your child while helping your child to begin, to strengthen what they have already started, OR to work on specific skills. I am positive and encouraging. 

💠I am the author of over 25 chapter books for children (having sold 40000 books in the last ten years) and a former teacher. I have also been published in magazines, newspapers, blogs, and Chicken Soup for the Soul books. I talk to students about my writing and the writing process and help to foster their own creativity. I have taught writing to 100s of students.


💠With my unique set of skills as a successful author, writer, and teacher, I am able to help learners to see the small things as well as the big ideas when it comes to their personal writing. I also work with students from scratch to practice the writing process in a fun way.

       💠Wrote a story back-and-forth with a reluctant, yet creative, writer
       💠Helped a very creative student to organize her thoughts for a graphic novel (She has gone on to write three full graphic novel stories with me.)
       💠Helped students who have started long stories but don't know how to end them, to organize their goals for the story ending
       💠Provided story starters for a student to practice creative writing with focus on different story elements like characters or settings
       💠Worked with students to correctly implement dialogue writing in the story including punctuation skills
       💠Helped students with story editing (run-ons, spelling, plot holes, grammar, etc.)
       💠Taught the five-paragraph essay structure with multiple students
       💠Helped students to improve sentence quality
       💠Helped students to create better beginnings, middle, and endings
       💠Taught lessons on how to make more exciting story starters
       💠Workshopped original stories with children to improve and edit
       💠Given LOTS of feedback to help students to improve upon their writing

Parent/Teacher communication is important so that you are getting what you are hoping for from me! I will communicate with parents via Outschool conversations before our first class to best understand the writing skill your child needs help with for that week. I have lots of resources available, and I am happy to create activities for practice if needed.

I have worked with many students to improve creative writing stories. I love seeing their eyes light up with enthusiasm and excitement.
