WELCOME TO WOMEN IN HISTORY! During each of these classes we will explore a brief biography of different women in history, their life, the society and culture that shaped them, and what contributions they made in their field. We will discuss how their lives would be different if they had been born in different times and cultures and what shaped them into achieving their goals. Different aspects of history will be discussed each week and how this affected each of these amazing women. Multiple perspectives of each woman's actions and affects, both positive and negative, on history will be explored and discussed. Each week we will explore a different powerful woman from history. The first half of the class will be a powerpoint lecture which may include recordings or videos. The second half of the class will be a guided discussion into what we have learned and our individual thoughts on what they did. Week 1 – Carrie Chapman Catt – American suffrage leader Week 2 – Penelope Barker – activist during the American Revolution Week 3 – Dolores Huerta – cofounder of the National Farmworkers Association Week 4 – Florence Kelley – Social reformer for minimum wage, 8 hour work days, and children’s rights Week 5 – Fannie Lou Hamer – American voting and women’s rights activist, leader in the civil rights movement Week 6 – Ruth Bader Ginsberg – Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the U.S. Week 7 – Margaret E. Knight – American inventor Week 8 – Elsie Macgill – Canadian aeronautical engineer Week 9 – Fe del Mundo – first woman admitted to Harvard Medical School Week 10 – Mary Anning – English palaeontologist in the 1800’s Week 11 – Euphemia Haynes – first African-American to earn PhD in mathematics Week 12 – Julia Morgan – American architect

There may be some Youtube videos that are seen during this class. I will share my screen and learners will not need to access them on their own.
