In this multi-day, open discussion class, students will be taught the evolution of music over the last century and more. Through lecture, audio, and video we will dive into how country, rock, rhythm & blues, as well as, jazz, bluegrass, pop, and rap all share in many common bonds. Music is a beautiful gift to explore and find what each of us enjoy in it. Some people love to listen to music in their way. Some love to write music, some to perform music. They are all wonderful ways to enjoy this kind of food for our ear, mind, body and soul. This will be understood as we learn together the history and evolution of music over the last century. There will be a lot of open discussion throughout class time, as well as time taken especially at the end of each class to discuss our daily section. I have an open ear for listening, and encourage the students to ask questions. I have a warm response to questions, as we are all learning. We have a lot of great topics to discuss and learn. Open to new learners studying music for the first time. Week 1 ~Discussion on what will be covered in this class. ~Our class format and rules. ~Discuss on types of music & genres. *Country, blues, rock, rhythm & blues, jazz, bluegrass, rap, pop ~Quick lesson on music and it's origin. Week 2 ~Families of music. and their influence on music. *Carter family, Everly Brothers, Cash family, Nelson family, The Staple Singers, Bee Gees, Beach Boys, Osmond Family, Allmans brothers, Van Halen brothers, Skaggs family, Hank Williams family, Jackson family, Sly & the Family Stone, AC/DC brothers....etc. ~Individuals of music and their influence on music. *Robert Johnson, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Prince, Elvis Presley, Neil Young, David Bowie, Chuck Berry, James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, John Coltrane, Marty Stuart, Sara McLachlan, Stevie Nicks, Etta James, John Mellencamp, Alan Jackson, Garth, Brooks, Alice Cooper, Mark Knofler, David Byrne, Loretta Lynn, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, George Jones, Madonna, Patsy Clein, Aretha Franklin, Dolly Parton, Taylor Swift, Chris Stapleton, Elton John, John Prine, John Denver. Blige, John Legend, Kid Rock, Eminem, Snoopy Dogg, Drake, LL Cool J, Queen Latifah...etc. ~A lengthy discussion how they all come together/fuse together. This is a perspective that will be be determined by the student. Some will see it in different ways. Multiple perspectives will come from the many different artist angle to creating their music. At the end of each section we will play music and video pertaining to our weekly topic. We will have open discussion on what we learned and comments. The continuing weeks we will take each section and dive deeper into the music genres, the individuals, and groups that continue to influence generation still to this day. ~Outschool is a secular platform. I take an unbiased approach on historical aspects of music. ~Wikipedia and YouTube web sites are used for different perspectives and well as Rolling Stones Magazine.

I teach harmonica, guitar, and ukulele. I have been involved in music my whole life. I started as a child acting and singing.
As an adult, I learned harmonica in my 30's. Later in my 40's, I picked up guitar and ukulele.
My philosophy is to love what your doing and practice.
I love to make people smile with music, food, and humor.
