このクラスで学べること

Does the thought of sautéing vegetables terrify you? Do you guess what the word "simmer" means? If left to your own devices, would your dinner consist of a reheated bowl of mac n' cheese? Well you can tell your family that YOU will be the chef tonight! They may be shocked... But it's happening! We will experience the wins and the fails together and root each other on. We will hold each other accountable so that we don't overcook the noodles, add too much salt, or forget to spray the pan before putting it in the oven. We're in this together... which means we're going to have fun!

I was never much of a cook. To be fair, I'm still not. But cooking is a necessity that ALL individuals should learn - even if it's just the basics! So let's take on one meal a week for the next four weeks. These dishes will be slightly more complex than spaghetti, but not so complicated that the average beginner can't master them. They were chosen to teach learners how to prepare a variety of food types and comprehend relevant overall cooking skills that can then be utilized in other dishes down the road.

Week 1: Tuscan Sausage Pasta
Week 2: Shrimp Tacos
Week 3: Garlic Butter Grilled Steak, Potatoes, & Mushrooms
Week 4: Black Olive & Provolone Pizza

This is by no means a professional cooking show. I'm an amateur just like you, and I will be filming my demonstrations from my own personal perspective on the meal. Grab your aprons and your measuring cups. Bring your sense of humor. And preheat the oven to 350 degrees of Cooking Joy.

I will post a video (complete with mistakes that I make!) of the process I use to create each dish and upload it to the classroom. Students will be required to post photos of their completed dishes each week. Other students in the course will be encouraged to share ideas and tips that they discovered while cooking the foods. Students will also be instructed to share videos of them cooking! Share your wins. Share your fails. That's how we ALL get better at cooking!

As part of the course, students are also required to interview their family members after the dinner has been prepared to gauge their opinions on the taste, look, and quality of the meals. These answers will be shared in the classroom portal and students will evaluate how they could improve in each category.

My Classroom Policies are listed on my teacher profile page. Please message me with any questions or to schedule this class at a different time!
学習到達目標
This class is for the young adult who never quite mastered how to prepare his/her own meal. This course will ensure that they understand the basics (and a little bit more!). They will learn how to improvise in the kitchen, to not be afraid of making mistakes, and how to have a positive attitude towards making meals in the future. They will gain confidence in the kitchen, and be encouraged to take on more cooking adventures in the future.

保護者へのお知らせ
Please be aware that we will be using a variety of tools in the kitchen, including stoves, ovens, knives, and other sharp or dangerous objects. We will use the utmost safety in each class, but it is the student's responsibility to use these items and tools with care and caution. It would be helpful for the learner or parent to message the teacher in advance of the class of any food allergies the student may have so that we can avoid any recipes with those ingredients. ALL recipes will be sent out in advance in order to determine if there are any food allergies amongst the learners.
受講に必要なもの
Students will be provided a full recipe and supply list each week for that particular meal.

Hello Outschool Learners and Fellow Parents!

As Mr. Rogers once said, "The best teacher in the world is somebody who loves what he or she does, and loves it in front of you!"

Although my Bachelor’s Degree is in Broadcasting & Communications, and not teaching, I've always had a passion for educating not only others, but myself. I love to learn about new places, ideas, and people, and I love sharing this knowledge with others! I am a proud mama of two precious little boys, and I may be biased, but they are definitely my two favorite students. I hope to inspire an understanding and appreciation for life-long education, not just for my own children, but also for yours! I have been teaching online for over 3 years, and I find this virtual format to be a fantastic way to learn and explore!

My teaching approach is conversational and interactive. I encourage discussions and opinions from all of my students. The classes I teach mostly focus on Movies and the Film/TV industry, Life Skills for a variety of ages, and ESL classes. Helping children learn to communicate more effectively is something I love to do. I believe teaching little ones the value of being kind, generous, and understanding towards others is irreplaceable, and these life lessons will be an integral part of every class.

To lend credit as to why I am qualified to teach these classes… I have been working in Film and Television my entire professional life. My background has put me inside of a newsroom, at National Geographic Channel, and as the manager of one of the largest film studios on the East Coast! I am also a hiring manager with a strong belief in early on professional development and basic communication skills. I also am a certified TESOL teacher and love helping young students capture and understand the English language.

Our worlds are growing and changing each day, and so are my classes. Together, let's learn something new!

My Classroom Rules and Policies:
- Per Outschool's Policy, if there are no learners in class, I will leave the classroom after 10 minutes.
- Per Outschool's Policy, all learners appearing on camera must be enrolled in class. Siblings are welcome to share a camera, but both must be signed up! All participating learners must be formally enrolled in that lesson. Failure to follow this rule may result in being placed into the waiting room until the problem is resolved.
- If you are the only student enrolled in the class, I will inform the parent a few hours in advance and cancel that day's lesson - unless there is an agreement ahead of time that the student will be the only one there.
- I will happily accommodate your schedule to the best of my ability! If you do not see an available time that works for you, please reach out so we can find an alternative solution.
- For my ongoing classes, if you let me know at least 24 hours in advance that you are unable to attend that week's class, I will offer a full refund. If you let me know right before class, I will offer a partial refund. If you simply do not show up, I will not offer you a refund.
