In this English conversation class, we will have “math talk” that revolves around real word situations, pop culture, and higher-level thinking.

This class is geared toward students learning English, but this would also be a great class to help students with math talk and working word problems.

Converting math thinking into words not only engages students but also boosts achievement.  According to this program at an elementary school (https://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2020/05/06/getting-students-to-talk-about-math-helps.html), with math conversation techniques English-learners improved their math proficiency rates by 5 percentage points and native-English speakers increased theirs by 7 points.
