Students will learn about the real-life animals of Minecraft using the science concept created by Dr. John Guthrie for his Concept-Oriented Reading Instructional Program. The goal is for students to explore the concepts/themes of animal locomotion, predation/feeding, respiration, communication, defense, and adoption to habit. The best thing is students can use these concepts/themes to anchor their knowledge of all animals, not just animals in the Roblox universe. 

I worked on the Concept Oriented Reading Science 13 million dollar grant under the direction of Dr. Guthire. I published the co-authored the chapter Reading Comprehension for Information Text: Theoretical Meanings, Developmental Patterns, and Benchmarks for Instruction in the book Motivating Reading Comprehension: Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction.

Informal assessment will take place with class discussion. If students want they can use a notebook to write and draw any information they would like about each animal to create their own Roblox Animal Journal.
