Students will understand their own learning styles and how they learn best. They will learn to apply strategies to retain information for mastery of any chosen subject. 

I have a unique opportunity to prevent others from suffering through some of the same obstacles I faced as a college freshman. I feel my experience, both personal and professional, needs to be shared to prevent a negative or disheartening first semester in higher education. I spent four years teaching this subject as part of a semester-long, bridgeway course at a community college. I have seen how putting these strategies into practical application has successfully impacted students’ grades, motivations, and self-value. I have often heard a “thank you” from my students at the end of the semester.

Learners will complete individual assignments, such as the Academic Intrinsic Motivation Self-Assessment (AIMSA), VARK Learning Styles Self-Assessment, and Multiple Intelligence Self-Assessment (MISA). Learners will also choose a creative method to present their self-discovery to their classmates. Learners will complete a written essay incorporating strategies for their specific learning styles.

There will not be a formal assessment for this class. Instead, learners will be informally assessed for mastery of learning goals.
