Whether your child is a struggling writer or one who loves to write, this three-week class is an excellent introduction to Fable - the first stage of classical writing. During class, we will read the short fable "The Crow & the Pitcher." Then students will have an opportunity to "tell it back" to the class over Zoom. We will complete a class dictation to strengthen memory, attention, and writing mechanics. Then students will identify the beginning, middle, and the end of the fable. They will use this information to write a concise summary and moral for the story. Students will learn about descriptive language, and then use what they learn to write an amplification of the fable. In the final class, students will share their version of the fable with the class.
学習到達目標

Welcome! I’m a classical educator specializing in English literature, writing, and elementary Latin. As a homeschooling parent, I fell in love with great literature and realized I wanted to give myself the classical education I never had. In addition to reading great works, I read everything I could about Socratic and classical pedagogy. In 2022, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Texas State University with a Bachelor of English. I then spent two years teaching middle school ELA and Latin 1 at a private classical school. I also have experience as a Montessori preschool teacher. I’m excited to teach students of all ages!
As a classical teacher, my courses are structured around the developmental and structural aspects of the trivium: grammar, logic, and rhetoric. With younger students, I lean into Charlotte Mason’s philosophy more (living literature and short lessons). At all ages, literature is approached to expose students to the good, the true, and the beautiful. Starting at ages 10-11, the class focus shifts to dialectic engagement. Students are encouraged to engage in class discussions to gain knowledge and wisdom about themselves, the subject matter, and society.
Growing up, I struggled with reading, and in early adulthood, I rarely read. For this reason, I hope to help students learn to love and appreciate language as much as I do now! Our lives are filled with amazing stories and adventures.
