Change the way you see the world! Artists see the world differently and through their work lead us to see the world differently too.  In this class we will expand our innate skills of visual perception to see the natural world with the eyes of an artist. Great artists, from El Greco to Renoir, J.M.W. Turner to Paul Cezanne, see the world differently, with an intense acuity. We will learn to do the same, exploring how perception can impact artistic creation and creativity.   Studying different natural phenomena, students will have the opportunity to transform their own powers of observation and perception. What does the world look like from the window of a speeding car? What happens to your own garden when a fog descends?  Class will be taught interactively, with student insight and involvement in responding to PowerPoint slides transforming the class discussion. In the words of poet Paul Valery, “to see is to forget the name of the thing one sees.”  No experience necessary, just the ability to look, deeply focus, think, and feel! Artists, naturalists,  observers will  never see the world the same way again, transforming their path to creativity.
