This INTENSIVE 8-week Summer Camp introduces learners to the basic concepts in high school chemistry over 16 lessons. Weekly videos, activities, and practice problems are designed to teach topics in a fun and engaging way. My goal is to make high school chemistry fun and to make it easier in the upcoming school year, whether it's your first or second time taking it. While there are NO LIVE lessons, it is paced to be completed in 8 weeks. There are 2 full lessons per week. Instead, learners will watch the videos posted for that week’s lessons. Then, complete the activities and discussions. Keep in mind that this course is designed to introduce a full-year high school chemistry curriculum over 8 weeks! Please note that this class covers most of the same material as my LIVE Chemistry Summer Camp! The video lessons are my full lessons taught in my live class, just without the student interaction. I recommend pausing the videos for practice and resuming for the next portion. How does that work? Each week contains 2 videos, each a lesson for that week. However, I encourage watching the first lesson on Monday or Tuesday and completing the activities. Then watch the second lesson on Wednesday or Thursday to complete the course in 8 weeks. Learners will watch videos where I explain and demonstrate the concepts for that week. Then, they will work through activities, practice problems, and/or virtual labs. Answer keys are posted for every practice problem set. Message me through Outschool if you have any questions on the class or the assignments. Students need to have completed Algebra I to understand the math in this class fully. They should also have a scientific calculator. Learners should be prepared to keep their notes so they can review them over the next school year.

I use Google Slides for drag-and-drop, labeling, and other interactive activities that I create. These activities allow students to engage with the concepts in a conceptual way, providing the foundation for key concepts. I will provide a paper alternative for assignments that will require printing, cutting, and sorting in some manner.
I use Google Docs for the guided notes that accompany the presentations. This format provides a way for students to complete the notes online if they prefer. I also provide the notes in a PDF format for those that prefer to print and complete them.
A Google Account will be needed to access the interactive activities and Google Docs. However, a printable alternative is provided for each, making the need for an account optional.
Each week’s presentation is recorded and provided as an unlisted, rated for kids, Youtube video. The listing removes ads, making it child-friendly, and easy to share. An account is not needed to access the videos.
To accommodate every learner’s unique needs (food allergies, parental availability for supervision, etc), I use virtual labs and simulations to illustrate specific concepts. PhET labs provide many simulations from the University of Colorado. Explicit instructions are provided for each simulation within the video lesson. An account is not needed to access PhET simulations.
