このクラスで学べること
In this one time class we will learn how the ancient Celts celebrated the Fall Equinox. We will study the origins of this holiday and its importance to the Celts survival. It is the exact opposite of the Vernal or Spring Equinox when the Celts welcomed the coming Spring and looked forward to longer days and plentiful harvests. The Fall Equinox heralds the beginning of Winter and the harvesting of crops and accumulation of livestock to prepare for the colder, darker and shorter days ahead. We will study the gods and goddesses that were believed to have influence over the harvest and what the Celts did to honor them. It is a time of inward reflection, a time to look at our lives and see what we have accomplished throughout the year. We will learn about all the good things that happened, reconcile the not so pleasant things and find a way to eliminate any negativity as we approach the harvest. We will even have a recipe that was used during this celebration. No experience is necessary to take this class.

This class is not designed to examine a religion, but rather to be a cultural study of life in Celtic times. The people who lived during this time looked to the seasons, the weather and the constellations to make sense of their world. The seasons guided their crop planting and harvest as well as caring for their livestock. I will reference History.com and their editorial called "Who Were Celts?" which traces the movement of Celtic peoples across Europe. I will also reference HistoryWorld, "History of the Celts", and TheSchoolRun.com which is a website specifically for children and I will refer to their in-depth study of the Celts along with suggestions for books to read. Finally I will reference newworldceltsinc.com which studies the Celtic Lunar Calendar and outlines the different celebrations during the changing seasons of the year.
教師の専門知識と資格
Growing up in England I developed a love for the 8 nature-oriented celebrations throughout the year. These ancient festivals were observed in a modern way all during my childhood. As a teacher, I used my experiences to show young learners the importance of these ancient festivals and traditions and how they apply to their world. I taught enrichment classes at a private school focusing on the Harvest Festival, All Hallows Eve, the Winter Solstice and Yule, the Spring Equinox, May Day and Imbolc. I have done extensive research on all of these topics.
