***Pre-requisite: STUDENT MUST have taken my class, “Drawing Yourself in Caricature” OR my summer “Caricature Camp” to be able to take this class. That is where they will learn the basics of drawing a face and breaking it down into shapes to create a cartoon version of the person, using as few marks as possible to capture their likeness. We do not cover those beginning steps and they will be lost, jumping into these classes without the introductory one. In this ongoing caricature class, we...
Still will learn to look at the shapes over a face and its features. They will learn to break down the face into smaller sections that are doable. For example, we will draw the bottom half of the face, then the forehead/hairline, then the eyes, nose, ears, mouth, etc, but each part of the face is made up of shapes that they will learn to see and translate onto their paper in a cartoon version, using as few lines as possible.
~ Paper: I use copy/printer paper for practicing. Cheap!
~ Pencil & white eraser
~ Markers: Black/gray. (I use the Crayola or Target 10-pc set that has the large, "broad tip" markers.
~Optional Coloring products:
Make-up (eyeshadows in many matte shades of brown/cream, blush or eyeshadows with pink as part of palette). {Check your Dollar Tree!}
Crayons (Crayola), specifically the "Colors of the World" set...a smaller set of 8 is just fine
Others coloring products such as pastels or colored pencil may be used as well.
