このクラスで学べること
In these lively and interactive classes, we will learn about a different woman each day! On the final day, we will hold a 'balloon debate' - learners will get to decide which of the women they think should stay in our hot air balloon. Each learner will have the opportunity to present their argument, and to listen to each other. And then we will take a final vote! The classes run as follows: (A) Welcome and rules for discussion (B) 'What can you tell from this photograph/portrait?' - We look at an image of the woman in question, and look for clues about what she did, when she lived, why she might be important. (C) Mini biography - we look through slides about the woman, and find out basic details about her life. (D) Activity time! We carry out a special fun activity in each class. These are as follows: Day 1 - Learners decorate a potato to look like Queen Elizabeth I - this is to represent the Golden Age of discovery (of potatoes!) during the Elizabeth era. Day 2 - We create a poster to celebrate the suffragettes Day 3 - Learners showcase any herbs they have been growing at home (optional) - this is to discuss Mary Seacole's role as a doctress. Day 4 - Learners mix a small amount of bicarbonate of soda, and vinegar together in a bowl (optional) which creates a small fizzing reaction - this is to demonstrate Marie Curie's love of science. (E) What did they do wrong? We have a quick chat about some of the difficulties the woman faced, and some of the mistakes she made. (No one is solely a hero - people are people!) (F) So should they be saved in our balloon debate? We finish with a quick chat about whether we think the woman should be saved in our balloon debate. All learners are invited to contribute their thoughts at this stage. On the final day, we have a longer time for this section, and all learners write a speech to argue for who they think should be saved. These are fun sessions, with discussions, debates, experiments and activities. I have a Masters in women's history from the University of Oxford, and I am super excited about teaching these classes on Outschool!

I have a Masters in women's history from the University of Oxford.
The small science experiment in Week 4 is entirely optional, very mild (it is mixing vinegar and bicarb of soda) and will require an adult to be nearby. I have experience in teaching this experiment.
