このクラスで学べること

This five-day course promotes balance and good health through the beautiful art and culture of Hawaiian hula.
All abilities are welcome in this introductory hula course that aims to establish an understanding, respect, and love for hula and Hawaiian culture.
We will take a holistic approach and address the learner’s growth in mind, body, and spirit.
Each class will include these three elements:
‘IKE (mind): A brief, introductory lesson on Hawaiian geography, history, culture, hula concepts, and/or ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language)
KINO (body): Learners will be instructed on basic hula steps and motions. The instructor will also encourage and discuss mālama kou kino (care for the body) by practicing simple healthy habits that can be done on a regular basis. Students will apply basic motions and steps to learn choreography to a hula kahiko (traditional) and/or hula ʻauana (modern).
MANA (spirit): The end of each class session will include a sharing of cultural Hawaiian values, including aloha (love), laulima (cooperation), and paʻahana (hard work). Students will be given positive affirmations and will be reminded that he/she is unique and capable. They will be able to practice positive self-talk.There will be a short discussion and sharing from students.
These three elements will be incorporated within a thematic approach, based on the hula that will be taught. (Key terms, vocabulary, cultural/historical knowledge, basic hula movements, Hawaiian value will all be related to the hula.) The instructor will provide a packet that learners may use throughout the course and may refer back to even after the classes are pau (finished).

Learners are encouraged to participate, ask questions, and seek clarification. The instructor will designate a question time during each class. Families are also able to send messages after class, throughout the week, if they are in need of clarification or have questions.

Dance requires physical participation, therefore, please make sure your child has a clear, open dancing space, slip-proof socks or bare feet, a water bottle nearby, and activewear type clothing. Since I am not physically present in the room with the dancers, injuries from moving around are possible if not properly supervised by an adult. Parents, please review Classroom Expectations and Outschool Quick Start Guide with your learner(s). These will be provided once you enroll your learner(s).
受講に必要なもの
Please attend class wearing comfortable clothing that allows for ample movement and stretching. Stretchy pants, leggings, and a comfortable top will be just fine. Learners may wear a sarong/pareo or hula pāʻū (skirt) if he/she already owns one. Also optional is a flower worn in the hair. Students will be dancing barefoot.
During class times, students must be in a place that allows them to have about a 6-8 foot diameter of safe dancing space.
Students can have a writing instrument ready, along with the Hula ‘Auana Book. (Included in the downloadable packet provided by the instructor.)

It is also a good idea to have a water bottle and towel on hand.
