The Hardy Boys book series was written by ghostwriters under the pen name Franklin W. Dixon. Brothers Frank and Joe Hardy, are fictional characters who are amateur sleuths, solving cases that stumped their adult counterparts. First released in 1927, The Hardy Boys have evolved since their debut in 1927, the first thirty-eight books have been extensively revised, largely to remove depictions of ethnic stereotypes. The Hardy Boys, Frank and Joe Hardy, are fictional teenage brothers and amateur detectives. live in the city of Bayport on Barmet Bay with their father, detective Fenton Hardy, their mother Laura Hardy, and their Aunt Gertrude. The brothers attend high school in Bayport, where they are in the same grade, but school is rarely mentioned in the books and never hinders their solving of mysteries. In the older stories, the Boys' mysteries are often linked to their father's confidential cases. He sometimes requests their assistance, while at other times they stumble upon relevant villains and incidents. In each novel, the Hardy Boys are constantly involved in adventure and action. Despite the frequent danger, the boys "never lose their nerve ... They are hardy boys, luckier and more clever than anyone else around. They live in an atmosphere of mystery and intrigue, and perhaps that is why they have intrigued readers of all ages for almost 100 years! In this book club, we will be discussing a new book each week. Books will be read ahead of time, before class. The books are also available as audiobooks! All of class time will be dedicated to discussing the books, playing games, and learning trivia related to the book. This class is designed to be fully interactive and students are expected to be fully engaged. If interacting with teacher and peers is uncomfortable for your student, this class is not a good fit for them. One of my core values is to teach children to think critically, and to apply that to everything they read. Racism or racial stereotypes are never acceptable to me, even in a fictional world.

Students will need a copy of the books The Hardy Boys, written by Franklin Dixon. Please ensure books are copies released after 1959, as hothouse have been revised to eliminate racism. The book of the week must be read or listened to BEFORE class. Students can use their own books, library books, ebooks, or even listen to the audio books. If listening to the audiobooks, it is highly recommended that student reads independently to develop their own reading comprehension and competency.
