What do you do when you know that the great storks are flying and settling in towns all around you but they won't bring their good luck to your village? Join us for a literary adventure to a quaint Dutch fishing village as we follow young Lina and her classmates on the quest for storks. Lina and her friends encounter many obstacles along the way, including the fierce and threatening sea. But sometimes when you begin to wonder why, you can begin to make things happen! We'll enjoy this exciting story as we read together, but we'll also: -Learn more about Holland and life on the North Sea -Join in our weekly live book discussion -Discover intriguing background information highlighting locations, characters, and historical context -Enjoy appropriate video tie-ins -Have a hot chocolate party as we await the "storm" just like the children in 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒍 -Create optional hands-on activities such as paper storks, posters, memes, and other fun projects Session/Week One: Come to class and enjoy the introduction to 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒍 Session/Week Two: Discuss Chapters 1-5 Session/Week Three: Discuss Chapters 6-10 Session/Week Four: Discuss Chapters 11-15 Does that seem like a lot of reading? Don't worry! You can start to read the book before we begin or speed right through it at the 4-week pace. Listening to the audio version is a great way to read, too! Love reading? Intrigued by history? Enjoy talking about your favorite books with other kids who do, too? Join us!

Supply list: You can acquire whichever edition of 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑺𝒄𝒉𝒐𝒐𝒍 that works for you. Beg, borrow, or buy! I will also provide a very easy-to-acquire list of supplies for small projects each week. You should have everything on hand—I'm a mom, too, and I know how difficult it can be to find obscure supplies, so I choose projects that are easy for you to put together.

What happens when a learner is given the time and space to soak in a story and allow it to change their life? “Aha!” moments are my goal, and it’s why I adore leading worthwhile discussions about classic books. What good is it if we require a teen to read a book but our dry and uninteresting rendering makes them never want to pick up another book of note ever again?
Book classes for kids who want an adventure, middle and high school literature studies, introductory writing, and engaging story times for the youngest of readers and story lovers are my passion here on Outschool. We can give our kids so much more than our own experiences when we open a book and the world to them!
I have a BA in Music/Opera Studies and am currently studying for an MSt Literature and Arts at Oxford University. I homeschooled our 8 children for 25 years in which we studied, read, and learned through nearly 500 great books together. That experience and literary knowledge have spilled out into the literature studies I lead with adult learners and kids alike.
