Welcome to the Civil Rights 1960s Protests Escape Room! Investigate nonviolent protests and Civil Rights Movement questions in this a 360° virtual experience! This class is more of an introduction to the way that different forms of protest during the 1960s were used to gain civil rights for African Americans duuring the Civi Rghts Movement. Learners will work in teams, as they use primary and secondary sources to help solve a series of puzzles, complete writing prompts, and answer trivia questions based on the Civil Rights Movement! Teams will work to complete a chart of the decade, as each activity will unlock clues, events, and major figures, using evidence from the primary and secondary sources desegregation and sit-ins provided during the escape room. Each escape room challenge will help students learn more about the experiences of major players, historical speeches, monuments and watershed moments of the Civil Rights Movement. Rooms are recreations of major landmarks. These escape room activities will include: Introduction: Student-based and Non Violent Protests in the 1960s Examine student reports and NCAAP primary source documents for definitions and purpose Puzzle 1:Civil Rights Trivia Based on Documentary Excerpt from How a Lunch Counter Sit-In Became an Iconic Civil Rights Moment Puzzle 2:Hidden Message Jigsaw Puzzle Puzzle 3: A Virtual Quiz: "The Civil Rights Movement" Puzzle 4: Map Work - Teams will Color and Label using a key and map of MLK's Speeches and Protests Puzzle 5: Analyze Primary Sources "MLK's Letter from Birmingham" Puzzle 6:Civil Rights Crossword Activity Puzzle 7: MLK Cryptogram All learners will be provided with a Civil Rights course pack, with all required reading material and handouts to complete their group tasks. Therefore, no previous knowledge is required for this class. However, pre-reading the articles in the course pack is recommended!

I have a B.A. in History and an M.A. in World History, as well as an M.A. in Globalization Studies. I have always had a passion for research in student movements and World History, and feel that this course will provide a fun introduction into that world using a CSI themed approach to history! I worked as a teaching assistant for two years during my M.A. in early American history and Peace Studies, including the original 13 colonies, the role of women in the colonies, and early American slavery, including the Underground Railroad into Canada. My research thesis involved the role of freed black women in the 1980-1850s, and the ways in which their writings influenced political and social changes. The course will use some primary sources to engage students! However, no previous reading is required for this experience! レビュー
