Beginner Music Theory Class is an easy to follow music theory class designed for learners ages 7-18 to help improve their reading, listening, and performance skills in music.  It's composed of structured lessons, teaching learners important musical concepts such as staff, bars, and bar lines and other musical signs; musical alphabet, note types and rests, note naming and writing in both treble and base clefs.  It also explains the purpose and meaning of scales, different time signatures and rhythms as well.  Consistent homework is distributed after each lesson for more practice and a better understanding.  Tests are given after each and every lesson or topic covered in order to make sure learners feel comfortable moving forward with their studies, as well as a final examination at the end of the class.  The incentive of the class is to help learners develop a strong and growing musical foundation for the future.

** Learners may or may not have any musical or instrumental background before taking this class

Course Content and Topics Covered:

Lesson #1: Musical Staff 
(Staff and Grand Staff, Bars and Double Bars and their meaning)

Lesson #2: Introduction to Treble Clef and Bass Clef
(Proper writing of each clef on a musical staff)

Lesson #3: Musical Alphabet in Treble Clef 
(Naming and writing notes in treble clef)

Lesson #4: Musical Alphabet in Bass Clef
(Naming and writing notes in bass clef)

Lesson #5: Note Types and Values+Rests and Introduction to Rhythm #1
(Writing, counting, and clapping quarter, eight, sixteenth, half, and whole notes+rests)

Lesson #6: Stem Direction and Ledger Lines 
(Naming and writing notes above and below the staff in treble and bass clef)

Lesson #7: Introduction to Musical Signs 
(Learning the meaning and purpose of musical signs and musical conversation)

Lesson #8: Time Signature and Rhythm 
(Naming, writing, and clapping notes in 4/4, 2/4, 3/4, and 6/8 time and the meaning of a compound, double, triple, and quadruple time)

Lesson #9: Dotted Note Types and Values+Rests and Rhythm #2
(Writing, counting, and clapping dotted quarter, eight, sixteenth, half, and whole notes+rests)

Lesson #10: Triplets and Rhythm 
(Writing, counting, and clapping triplets)

Materials Required: 

1. Printer or Computer/Tablet for completing homework and exercises 
2. Pencil and an Eraser 
3. Music Theory Worksheets 

Class Structure:

> Slides and videos with large pictures and examples are often used to help increase learner's comprehension, attention and understanding during the class
> A lot of practice as well as learner's involvement in the class is constantly enforced through fun games, repetitions, examples, questions and open conversations
> Tests are given after each and every lesson learned and a final examination at the end of the class reviewing all of the musical concepts learned throughout the class
