The students will submit work after the lesson that will be reviewed by the teacher and feedback will be given in a timely fashion. The end project will be reviewed by the teacher will direct feedback given.

This course is set up in four sessions. An introduction will be given by the teacher along with practice problems to solve together. Students will be given a homework challenge in the form of a puzzle or game.

Session One- A review of matter will be conducted along with an introduction to atoms. Students will draw atoms and learn the require d vocabulary. Students will complete a mini project of a model of an atom.

Session Two- The teacher will introduce elements and chemical symbols and will practice finding elements on the Periodic Table. Students will complete a puzzle sheet finding elements on the Periodic Table.

Session Three- The teacher will go more in-depth about the Periodic Table and how it is constructed. Students will learn about classification of elements. Students will choose an element to draw.

Session Four- The teacher will introduce molecules, beginning with the Mickey Mouse Molecule. Students will learn about other common molecules and how elements combine. Safety precautions will also be stressed about the danger of mixing elements. Students will choose to complete a model of three different molecules.

When making the clay for the final project, parents will need to supervise their children when mixing the materials and heating them on the stove.

The teacher will provide the puzzle sheet for you to download.

Students will need:
paper and colored pencils for drawing
print out of the puzzle sheet that the teacher provides
Ingredients for making a molecule clay: water, cornstarch, baking soda, flat toothpicks, food coloring
pot, measuring cups and parent supervision for making the clay
