There will be no live meetings as this is a Flex class and can be done at a flexible schedule at the student’s own pace during the 4 week time frame. There will be 8 video lessons (1 lesson will be posted each week and will be accessible through nearpod). You can contact me anytime and I will make sure I answer no later than 48 hours. There will also be a group practice after each lesson in which students will upload videos of themselves doing some of the ASL signs/ sentences related to the content in the lesson. For each group practice,Students will learn through experiences involving hands-on conversations using American Sign Language in which they will record videos of themselves responding to conversations amongst the teacher and the other students in the class using ASL revolving around the lesson's topic. Office Hours: Students (if requested) can set up a 15 minute live video chat appointment with me through Outschool's Zoom platform if they want extra help with some of the ASL content. Optional Group Video Chat Meet-Up: At least two to three times during the 8 week period of this FLEX class (pending on how busy I am with my full time preschool teaching job and graduate school), students who are interested can have the option to meet with me by video chat to practice some of their ASL as a group and play some group games in ASL for 20 to 30 minutes. Lesson 1: -Learning how to introduce yourself in American Sign Language -Students will make video recordings of themselves introducing themselves using ASL (including fingerspelling their names) and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Introduction to the ASL alphabet and Finger Spelling -Students will make video recordings of themselves signing the ASL Alphabet and fingerspelling their names and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Colors in ASL -Students will make video recordings of themselves signing the ASL colors and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Learning how to count to 1 to 10 using American Sign Language -Students will make video recordings of themselves counting from 1 to 10 in ASL and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Group Practice Conversations for Lesson 1 Lesson 2: Numbers and Greetings -Today's Lesson (30 Minutes): -Learning how to count from 10 to 20 using American Sign Language -Students will make video recordings of themselves counting from 10 to 20 in ASL and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Counting from 1 to 20 in American Sign Language -Students will make video recordings of themselves counting from 1 to 20 in ASL and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Simple Greetings in American Sign Language -Students will make video recordings of themselves signing the simple ASL greetings and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Group Practice Conversations for Lesson 2 -Lesson 3: Family/Friends and Personal Interests -Refresher(first 10 minutes of class):Brief Recap of Previous Session Content -Today's Lesson (30 Minutes): -Holidays -Students will make video recordings of themselves signing the holidays in ASL and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -ASL signs relating to family/friends -Students will make video recordings of themselves doing family/friend ASL signs and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -ASL signs relating to personal interests -Students will make video recordings of themselves personal interest related ASL signs and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Group Practice Conversations for Lesson 3 -Lesson 4: School/Community -Today's Lesson : -ASL signs relating to school -Students will make video recordings of themselves doing school related ASL signs and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Foods -Students will make video recordings of themselves signing foods in ASL and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -ASL signs relating to community -Students will make video recordings of themselves doing community related ASL signs and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Group Practice Conversations for Lesson 4 Lesson 5:Days of the Week/Time -Learning the Days of the week in ASL -Students will make video recordings of themselves signing the days of the week in ASL and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Learning time (hours and minutes) in ASL -Students will make video recordings of themselves signing hours and minutes in ASL and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Emotions -Students will make video recordings of themselves signing emotions in ASL and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Group Practice Conversations for Lesson 5 Lesson 6: Months and Years -Learning the months in ASL -Students will make video recordings of themselves signing the months and years in ASL and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Sports -Students will make video recordings of themselves doing sports related ASL signs and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Travel -Students will make video recordings of themselves doing travel related ASL signs and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Learning the years in ASL -Students will make video recordings of themselves signing the years in ASL and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Group Practice Conversations for Lesson 6 Lesson 7: Pond, Forest and Farm -Pond Ecosystem/Animals -Students will make video recordings of themselves doing pond animal related ASL signs and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Forest Ecosystem/Animals -Students will make video recordings of themselves doing forest animal related ASL signs and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Farm Ecosystem/Animals -Students will make video recordings of themselves doing farm animal related ASL signs and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Group Practice Conversations for Lesson 7 Lesson 8: Jungle/Rainforest and Ocean -Rainforest Ecosystem/Animals -Students will make video recordings of themselves doing rainforest animal related ASL signs and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Jungle Ecosystem/Animals -Students will make video recordings of themselves doing jungle animal related ASL signs and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Ocean Ecosystem/Animals -Students will make video recordings of themselves doing ocean animal related ASL signs and share it on the classroom page with the teacher and the other students in the class. -Group Practice Conversations for Lesson 8 The students will be able to practice their ASL skills with the teacher and the other children through video sharing. Students are encourage to build on personal interests through conversations and the teacher will modify lessons to suit the learning needs of each students. There will also be interactive games embedded in the lessons in which the students can participate with each-other via video and/or picture sharing. Students will also learn briefly about deaf culture. Once to twice each week I will be checking in with students and parents.

Students need to be comfortable video recorded. If a student does not want their face shown on the camera, they can film their hands. The reason for this is because this flex class will be very interactive and I want to see students’ hands.
