REVISED! The course will begin by teaching the ASL alphabet, numbers, colors, days and some basic principles of ASL. The class size will be limited to 6 learners so that ample attention can be given to each individual. Class participation is an integral part of this learning experience and students are encouraged to practice using their ASL skills outside of class. I have chosen to use Sign Language For Kids Activity Book by Tara Adams for this class. It had excellent illustrations for each sigh I will teach and also has fun activities that students can do outside of class to practice what we are learning. Week 1 Class 1: ABC, Introduction ASL and Guidelines for fingerspelling (pgs 2-3) Class 2: Numbers, Signing Basics part 1 (pgs 4-9) Review Activities: page 62 Fingerspelling Practice page 66 Secret Message Week 2 Class 1: Basics part 2, Home, Family, Pets (10-19) page 69 Fingerspelling Practice Class 2: Action Words (pgs 20-26) page 63 Vocabulary Practice Week 3 Class 1: Thoughts and Feelings (pgs 27-32) page 85 Vocabulary Review (guess the feeling) page 90 Vocabulary Review (matching) Class 2: Fun Activities (pgs 33-37) page 76 Vocabulary Review (guess the activity) page 81 Vocabulary Review ( matching) Week 4 Class 1: Food and Drink (pgs 38-42) page 67 Vocabulary Review (guess the food) Plan what you want to eat for a day. Practice your foods in ASL. Class 2: The Great Outdoors (pgs 43- 47) page 94 Vocabulary Review (guess the weather) Draw pictures of trees to show 4 seasons and describe the weather for each season Week 5 Class 1: School and Learning (pgs 48 - 53) What classes do you have in school? Practice signing them. What classes do you have in school? Practice fingerspelling them. Class 2: Descriptive Words (pgs 54-58) page 103 Vocabulary Review (guess the adjective) Describe your favorites! (toy, food, drink using adjectives in lesson) Week 6 Class 1: Animals on the Farm and in the Field (OS Teacher prepared materials) Animal charades (guess the animal) Describe the animal using size, color or special characteristic of that animal Class 2: Animals in the Zoo (OS Teacher prepared materials) Animal charades (guess the animal) Describe the animal using size, color or special characteristics of that animal
