Important Notes: All of my classes are inclusive. Classes are suitable for the neurodiverse child. CEFR: B1-B2 or above. Learner is introduced to a phenomenal selection of women artists, universal creators of enduring art: Sofonisba Anuissola, Artemisia Gentileschi, Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, Katsushika Oi, Camille Claudel, Berthe Morisot, Eva Watson-Schütze, Remedios Varo, Hilma af Klint, Mary Cassat, Brooke Romaine, Georgia O'Keeffe, Marina Nuñez del Prado, Frida Kahlo, Lee Krasner, Helen Frankenthaler, Alice Neel, Louise Bourgeois, Augusta Savage, Elaine Fried De Kooning, Dorothy Gillespie, Marta Minujin, Yayoi Kusama, Kellie Strawley and Nenna Okore among others. The selection of art pieces was carefully curated and extra special effort was put into ensuring that the images in these art pieces are child appropriate; examples of their motives are hands, self-portraits, a couple dancing a waltz, a spider, a fabric weaving, as well as abstract images. This class introduces a current theory that some prehistoric paintings may have been done by women, how women were responsible for embroidering one of the greatest historically relevant art pieces from the Medieval Ages, and how through the Renaissance to our modern day, great female artists have pursued their craft with excellence despite many gender and societal limitations. This class is inspirational for both girls and boys, revealing that talent is a reflection of our being human - and not gender based. Class is structured with a welcome and introduction time; the slide presentation invites engagement in the form of questions, comments, discussions; with a final review including Q&A. The class is taught with a mindful approach which is individualized, inclusive, interactive, in an environment that celebrates curiosity, and experiences learning as a fascinating and kindness infused opportunity. Class size is kept small so Learner feels welcome to engage in the process through a platform where exploration and expansion are nurtured. For these reasons, and for gauging Learner's interest level being able to adjust accordingly, I require open mics and video in my classes so there is a sense of community and engagement with the material. In our mindful class, Learner is asked to raise a hand when wishing to participate as this encourages grounding, patience and deep listening skills bringing with itself a myriad of benefits. Class includes material from the most reputable primary sources making the information come to life in a meaningful way (for details, please refer to sources). In addition to being child-friendly by following the history of art through a unifying theme, pedagogically speaking, having a centrally weaving subject helps the child organize the many artists and styles in a way that is clear and memory friendly. Depending on Learner's interaction and engagement, class may run a bit longer. Parent may want to allow for additional time to accommodate Learner. No previous experience is required. Note: Class icon is a remarkable painting by American contemporary artist, Kellie Strawley, who combines her love of scientific inquiry with her fascination for the deeper questions in Life, in a blossoming circle inspired by a most inspiring force in her life.
