Printed images of animal (from Google search, see description above)
Newspaper or plastic tablecloth to keep surface clean when painting
Old shirt or apron to protect clothing when painting
Sketchbook or inexpensive (printer) paper to practice drawing
Pencils, eraser, pencil sharpener
White colored pencil (from a set, or white Prismacolor can be purchased separately at Michaels)
inexpensive acrylic paints in tubes, in blue, white and black. I found tubes at Walmart for less than $2 apiece. An alternative is acrylic craft paint in the bottles found at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, and the craft department in many stores.
Wide, flat paintbrushes (sets of brushes for acrylic painting can be found at Walmart for less than $5. 
White paint marker. I found Sharpies in the same aisle as the paint for a little over $2. OR, acrylic paint marker--these are more expensive and found at Michael's. Alternative can be a silver Sharpie.
Regular white chalkboard chalk. I found a box of 12 Crayola white chalks at Dollar Tree.
For the final painting, any heavy paper, such as watercolor paper, Bristol board, or even cardboard can be used. An alternative is canvas or canvas panel. I use 8X10 watercolor paper for this project.
Clear acrylic spray fixative OR hairspray
