In this 3-session online course, students will participate in engaging activities that help them better understand why they want a smartphone and how they can start a responsible discussion with their parents/guardians on future steps. According to Common Sense Research, 42% of kids have a phone by age 10. By age 12, it's 71 percent. By 14, it's 91 percent. The peer pressure is real. This session will help your learner engage in a safe, helpful and guided conversation on a common topic upon peers to get an iPhone. Join a community of concerned parents who want to delay, protect, and guide their child’s smartphone usage. Please refer to the topics covered during this course, which is tailored for students aged 10 to 15 years old. Session 1 ⇢ Discover what you could do with and with OUT an iPhone, this includes a creative and engaging activity and ways to develop an investigative mindset. Session 2 ⇢ Learn the core functions of the smartphone, and the areas considered "the wild wild west." Also, explore why you and your peers may want to become an influencer. Session 3 ⇢ Develop a plan for productively discussing the learner's iPhone readiness at home, and allow your parents to join in for a Q&A and ways to take action NOW. Note: Completing this course does not indicate that students are entitled to request for an iPhone; rather, it demonstrates that they understand the fundamental responsibilities, risks and readiness needed before the parent or guardian makes the decision. The aim is to help students develop a greater sense of responsibility so that when they do get an iPhone/smartphone, the device will work to enrich their lives. Thank you for allowing me to speak with your student about this important life issue!

Hello! I am super excited to start teaching on Outschool to educate learners between 10-17 years old on subjects that tackle news coverage and social media literacy.
Classes in the pipeline:
- "Are you ready for an iPhone," which is a 3-day camp (50 min/session) to help learners assess their understanding of utilizing a smartphone and accessing social media networks to facilitating a responsible discussion with their parent/guardian on next steps
- "Learn about your media bias," a 1-time session (50 min/session) to help learners understand their own news bias as well as the bias of media organizations. We want to educate learners on how they can develop a healthy news diet, despite their political preference or personal bias, so that they can respect the diverse views in American society.
**If you have any ideas or topics to better approach the subjects for your learner, please feel free to reach out on your suggestion. Thank you for your support.
My background:
Bachelor's Degree in Communications from UCLA, a student journalist for my high school newspaper and college digital radio station. I have also created news stories for RISE Reporting and my personal social media account. I have significant experience teaching and developing curriculum for elementary school to middle school students in a volunteer capacity, but did not choose a professional teaching route as a career. I am a mom of two kids who started RISE Reporting that began to provide training and resources to university students on social media news reporting.
My teaching philosophy:
I love to create a safe space and fun learning environment for students so that they can be empowered to discover and develop skills learn while charting a positive path forward for their interests, passions, and professions.
My heart behind teaching is to create a positive impact on how my children will get their news in the future. I want to educate young people on how to make sense of the news. I want to restore how the media is a key pillar of democracy and to rebuild trust in the news.
Something fun and personal:
I can do a headstand. I grew up as the middle child of three sisters. I was born in Chicago, raised in Los Angeles; as an adult, I have lived in Dubai, Taipei, and Singapore for work and personal reasons.
