Are you interested in ancient civilizations? Do you want to learn about ancient art, architecture, new discoveries in archaeology? This tutorial is designed for learners at all levels, whether they are home-schooled, in-person school or simply interested in one specific topic. Many families are too busy to commit to my ongoing class entitled A Journey Through History, but wish for their learners to have a lesson on a specific topic to coincide with their studies. My tutorial will follow the same class format: in the first 45-50 minutes, the learners will be introduced to the ancient civilization of their choice. We will talk about its geographic location, the time period in question, important archaeological sites and their treasures, the rise and fall of the culture, and so much more! I create my classes so students get a good overall understanding of the civilization and a mix of interesting, surprising, and even silly fun facts! I also include the latest archaeological information and theories when possible. I teach in an open lecture style, where I go through engaging slides, stories, ancient texts, and information. Students are asked open-ended questions throughout the lesson and are encouraged to ask questions of me at any time. The informal tone of the class invites the learners to participate as they feel comfortable. For the last 5 minutes, the learners will be able to complete their own drawings, or they can draw along during class if they prefer. I will suggest a few artefacts or buildings for them to draw, but they can also choose anything that they like from the presentation. They can even draw a comic strip that reflects the civilization that we examined. I encourage all my learners to ask questions, whether verbally or through chat. If there are no questions, this is a time when we can talk about anything archaeological, and I am always happy to tell them stories and fun facts about being an archaeologist! In the last few minutes, students can show their masterpieces and I invite them to reflect on what they have learned.

When studying archaeology, we inevitably tackle the subject of burials and human remains; it is difficult not to talk about mummies when we study Egypt! I always inform the parents ahead of time, and I have reminders on my slides about the subject matter. We also discuss how comfortable they are, and why we look at burials. Why are they so important to archaeologists?
