Making a presentation is one way to share information about yourself or a topic. How you add to and customize a presentation gets your message across in different ways. As they complete this lesson, students will learn and practice the following digital skills: Create a new presentation in Google Slides Choose a theme Add and move slides Insert, resize, and reposition an image Add text to slides Format text (color, font, size) Add and resize text boxes Add animations and transitions Preview in “present” mode Digitally share slides with a classmate Digitally enter comments in a classmate’s presentation Week 2 Make a Promotional Flyer: Raise awareness about a project and recruit volunteers by creating a flyer in Google Drawings. Communicate information visually to an audience. Use digital tools to visually present information. Answer the following essential question: How can I communicate and promote project details on a flyer? Internalize the following enduring understandings: I can create a flyer to communicate details about a school or community project. I can create a flyer to promote a project to gain public support and volunteers. As they complete this lesson, students will learn and practice the following digital skills: Open a Google Drawings template Adjust the size of the canvas Choose a background color Insert text box(es) Insert text Format text font, styling, color, and alignment Insert image(s) from the web Drag image(s) to the canvas Format image(s) Week 3 Make a Flowchart: Explain a process or decision visually by creating a flowchart in Google Drawings. Use a digital tool to create a flowchart of a process. Identify the major components of a flowchart and describe them concisely. Answer the following essential question(s): How can making a flowchart help me organize a process? How can I visually communicate the steps of a process? Internalize the following enduring understanding(s): Creating a flowchart can help me understand a process by organizing it visually. Flowcharts can help me explore different approaches to a decision I have to make. As they complete this lesson, students will learn and practice the following digital skills: Create and title a Google Drawing Insert a text box and format text Insert and format flowchart shapes Insert and format connectors Change the background Delete a text box Week 4 Create a Vision Board: Inspire yourself to reach your goals by creating a vision board in Google Drawings. Articulate areas of your life that you would like to improve, focus on, or call attention to. Write text and select images that support your vision or goal. Combine images, words, and shapes to create a vision board. Answer the following essential questions: How can I motivate myself to reach goals at school, work, and in my personal life? What aspects of myself would I like to improve or focus on for a period of time? How can a digital inspiration board help me motivate myself? Internalize the following enduring understanding: I can create a digital tool and use it for daily inspiration to achieve my goals. As they complete this lesson, students will learn and practice the following digital skills: Create and title a new drawing. Apply a background. Insert and format Word Art. Insert and format images. Create and format shapes. Align objects on a canvas. Week 5 Use Drive to Organize Files: Learn how to store, access, and share documents, presentations, forms, and photos in the cloud. Create and color-code folders in Google Drive to save class materials and assignments. Create a file naming convention to easily find assignments and keep track of due dates. Move related files into the appropriate class folder or sub-folder. Share files and folders with a classmate and add to their own Drive. Answer the following essential question(s): How can I use Google Drive to organize my files, collaborate on projects, and keep track of due dates? Internalize the following enduring understanding(s): Cloud-based storage systems like Google Drive ensure that you can find and work on files whenever you have an Internet connection. An organizational system can help you stay on track with due dates and quickly find the files you need. Using a consistent naming convention and/or color coding system makes it easier to stay organized. When you are organized, it’s easier to collaborate with others. As they complete this lesson, students will learn and practice the following digital skills: Demonstrate an understanding of Google Drive and cloud-based storage systems. Create, name, move, and color-code folders. Develop a file naming convention for files in Drive. Upload a document to Google Drive. Share files and folders and request feedback. Change sharing permissions. Find recent files in Google Drive. “Star” important files within Google Drive.
