In this course, I will give sessions teaching the content of the AP European History course for students taking the AP exam in May. I spent the last two summers grading essays for the AP World History: Modern Exam for the College Board, and I feel that I can use this experience to help students in AP Euro succeed.

My hope for this course is that students that join will communicate in the class conversation board about what they might need extra help in, the unit you are currently working on in your school, anything that was not clear that you've learned before, or whatever else you may need. If students don't have any suggestions on topics needed to be covered in a particular meeting, I will have a lesson prepared that covers one section of the course that I think is especially necessary. Since this may be difficult with a larger class, I have capped the number of students in any particular meeting at six.

My teaching style is very engaging, using a large amount of student interaction and student-produced examples. Students are often asked to give self-references to concepts in order to enhance memory retrieval with important concepts. Students will be able to interact with each other and with me throughout the class.

Students joining this course should either already be part of an AP World History: Modern course or be actively self-studying in order to take the AP World History: Modern exam. I will make sure that content is presented as if it were the students' first time learning the information, so as to accommodate for students who may be learning the material at different times than others.

In the event that students do not give suggestions of topics to cover in these meetings, here is a schedule of topics that I will prepare for the first four weeks of meetings:

Week of December 13 - Unit 3 Review
Week of December 20 - Unit 4 Introduction
Week of December 27 - Unit 4 Topic 4
Week of January 3 - Unit 4 Review

For more information on the course, a description of the exam, and much more, the Course at a Glance and the Course and Exam Description (CED) are posted in the classroom so that all learners have access to this important information. Additional information is reposted below.

AP European History is an introductory college-level European history course. Students cultivate their understanding of European history through analyzing historical sources and learning to make connections and craft historical arguments as they explore concepts like interaction of Europe and the world; economic and commercial developments; cultural and intellectual developments; states and other institutions of power; social organization and development; national and European identity; and technological and scientific innovation.

Course Content
Influenced by the Understanding by Design® (Wiggins and McTighe) model, this course framework provides a description of the course requirements necessary for student success.

The AP European History framework is organized into nine commonly taught units of study that provide one possible sequence for the course. As always, you have the flexibility to organize the course content as you like.

Unit 1: Renaissance and Exploration 10%–15%
Unit 2: Age of Reformation 10%–15%
Unit 3: Absolutism and Constitutionalism 10%–15%
Unit 4: Scientific, Philosophical, and Political Developments 10%–15%
Unit 5: Conflict, Crisis, and Reaction in the Late 18th Century 10%–15%
Unit 6: Industrialization and Its Effects 10%–15%
Unit 7: 19th-Century Perspectives and Political Developments 10%–15%
Unit 8: 20th-Century Global Conflicts 10%–15%

Some sensitive topics may be covered when discussing concepts in the AP US History course, but they will be handled in a way that is both age-appropriate and ideologically balanced. I have been teaching AP classes for 7 years and I have 9 years of teaching experience in world history and psychology, which has trained me to approach sensitive topics in an empathetic, highly understanding way. I have also graded AP History essays for the College Board for two years, which has given me an expertise on the grading process that I would love to share with your students.
