It's no secret this class is a personal favorite of mine to teach, due to my background in creative writing and literary theory! I have completed my bachelor's in creative writing while minoring in literary theory and will begin my master's degree this spring! Whether students are ambitious freshmen or graduating seniors, this class has a syllabus stocked with important writing skills, grammar terms, SAT-level vocabulary words, and classic literature studies! **Please see the class syllabus for a breakdown of class material** Class is fast-paced, fun, and highly interactive. I ask students to keep their cameras on and be prepared to participate in discussions. Students will leave class with a deeper understanding of over 30 authors - poetic, contemporary, and classic literature including: Capote, Twain, Dickens, Woolf, Poe, Whitman, Shelley, Tolstoy, Austen, Hemingway, Angelou, Olds, and Dostoevsky. Writing projects include: Story arc mapping, the hero's journey, the setting and exposition of creative writing, persuasive essays, compare and contrast papers, personal research projects, as well as poetry writing, and real-world writing skills. (Addressing an envelope, writing a professional, email, etc.) Students will learn how to format their papers in MLA and APA format which will be required in college. It is going to be a wonderful school year and I look forward to seeing students' continued growth! :)

Please note, I have pre-screened all reading excerpts and movie clips to ensure clean language and age-appropriate topics, however, if students are interested in reading the entire book or watching the rest of the movie outside of class once being introduced to it, please do your own research to determine whether your student is ready for that specific novel/film.
YouTube is used in class for recorded interviews, film clips, and biographies of authors.
Abcya, Blooket, IXL, and Education.com are used for fun game reviews.
