このクラスで学べること

In this class we will be using Fiddlers Philharmonic by Andrew Dabczynski and Bob Phillips.
This book will cover basic tunes and widely used variations.
Each week we will cover a different set of tunes and variations, and we will use supplementary material from the Fiddlers Fakebook to discuss theory, history, and rhythm.

Class will be structured mostly in a large group with lecture style instruction where I will show learners the material, and how to play it. Each learner will have a chance to replicate the tune or variation on their own, either in a one on one during small groups time, or in front of the class during large group time. Small groups will be used sparingly as needed to encourage good practice habits and enable one on one time with students who would benefit.

Students should know how to read music and replicate basic tunes.

Learning Goals: Students will learn how to replicate specific rhythms, improve their bow technique, increase dexterity in their left hand, and learn historical lore surrounding popular fiddle tunes.
Homework: Students will be expected to practice regularly, 3-5 days a week at 30-60 minutes a day.

Lesson plans for each week are responsive to student need and may be adjusted to meet students needs that week. Plans may change to reflect specific skills needed to master a tune, or may include more than one tune at a time, if the class needs more challenging content. The class will work as a unit through each tune, but lesson plans are tiered to allow for different levels of ability simultaneously.

Week 1 Getting to know each other, introduction to fiddle, introduction to Double Stops, Cripple Creek (p.4)
Week 2 I'se the By (p.6) and Bile 'Em Cabbage Down (p.7)
Week 3 Si Bheag, Si Mhor (p.8)
Week 4 Road to Boston (p.10)
Week 5 Old Joe Clark (p.12)
Week 6 Swallowtail Jig (p.14)
Week 7 Ash Grove (p.16)
Week 8 Flowers of Edinburgh (p.18)
Week 9 La Valse Des Jeunes Filles (p.20)
Week 10 Kesh Jig (p.22)
Week 11 Westphalia Waltz (p.24)
