During this 4-week course, students will learn about the basic concepts of vowels including long and short vowels, the silent 'e', the bossy 'r', and common vowel blends.

Here is a brief outline of some of the activities we will be participating in during this course:

Week #1: Short vowels -

1. we will begin with a short video clip to introduce the short vowels, their sounds, and some word examples. I will present an anchor chart for review and we will work as a class to add more words to the chart through the use of discussion topics in the classroom.
2. We will work on sorting picture-words into their correct vowel sound category and use clip chart cards to practice identifying the vowel sound in a word! Students will participate in these sorts through interactive google slides and teacher-led videos.
3. I will post videos and pictures of the sort and ask students to comment which vowel "house" the pictures should be sorted into.

Long vowels -
1. we will begin by watching a short video that introduces the sounds of long vowels and some word examples.
2. We will work on an anchor chart as a team and develop long vowel word examples to add to the chart via classroom discussion posts.
3. We will work on sorting picture cards into their appropriate vowel family using interactive google slides and discussion posts.
