In this 4 week flex class, students will learn about plants from their cells to their life cycles. Students will learn the following by week (in chronological order): 1. Students will learn about the parts of a plant from cells to their structures. Students will also learn how plants create new plants through various methods of reproduction. Students will learn about the life cycle of a plant and differences in plants based on structure or seed types.
I am a elementary and middle school science teacher having taught elementary science for 2 years, and have taught middle school science for 8 years from 6-8th grade. I am licensed as a science teacher from 6-12 grade, with a Masters in Science Education. I like making learning relate to real world experiences so students can connect to material easier than standard memorization. I review in a flow pattern that starts with basic information and expands into complex information to assist students with retention.

Students will learn about the reproduction of plants, including sexual and asexual reproduction. We will not discuss this topic beyond that of plants including the stamen and pistil, as well as what types of asexual reproduction exist for plants. We will not discuss this topic in context beyond the topic of this course. Students will be given assignments that will be on Google Forms/Slides/Docs/Jamboard (pdf copies will also be supplied for families who prefer to write versus completion of digital assignments), SuperScience for readings of current events, and Kahoot for review. No subscriptions/accounts are required and all links will be supplied in the classroom page for access (please note Google programs will be shared as a copy, and not for collaboration outside of the classroom-families can make their own copy and share the completed work via links in the learner conversation tab for grading). Students may choose to dissect a plant, and this will be demonstrated in the class video. Sharp items may be used to complete this task. Parental guidance is advised due to instruments in use. Students are not required to work with plants directly due to allergy potentials. While this is demonstrated in class for a full immersive experience, students are not required to dissect plants or handle plants.
Students will have access to Google Forms/Slides/Docs/Jamboards for assignment completion, as well as paper copies if digital is not preferred. Students will have the opportunity to read SuperScience Magazine for articles pertaining to the topic, when applicable.
