空中戦！空中戦闘の起源

In this class, we will use images, models, and the teacher's first-hand experience as a military pilot to learn how a brand-new and little-understood invention, the airplane, gave birth to a new domain of war--war in the air! 

We will trace the development of aircraft designs, from humble beginnings as an observation platform, to highly maneuverable fighters and massive long-rang bombers. Together as a class, we will reason through the obstacles that faced early pilots and aircraft designers to uncover the key elements of technological development. We will examine how technology drove tactics, and tactics drove technology. Student will gain an understanding of what drove the lightening-fast technological advances and ever-expanding roles of airplanes. Finally, we will link early aircraft design, roles, and missions to today's modern military airpower.
