このクラスで学べること

What topics will you cover?
-STEM
-Aerospace Engineering

How is your class structured?
We will learn about a new topic each week and then your student will be requested to participate in an engineering challenge.

How will you teach?
Week 1 we will discuss what aerospace is and what engineers do as well as what an engineer is and what they do. The teacher will share slides of examples of problems and projects aerospace engineers work on. After learning this information as a basis for the start of the course students will participate in a Kahoot game to review the information which was taught.
Week 2 students will dive into the history of aerospace and learn cool facts about the field. The teacher will introduce the science of hot air balloons and how and where they are used in real life. Students will then be given instructions and view a video demonstration for a hands on hot air balloon challenge they will complete during the week.
Week 3
This week students will be able to explain and define the difference between lift, thrust, gravity and drag. Students will be involved in a project which will help them gain an understanding of Newton's Third Law. This week we will also discuss engines and how they work.
Week 4 students will learn the benefits and challenges of well defined roles and how multiple roles are essential in successfully accomplishing projects. Students will be involved in an engineering challenge that requires them to navigate specific instructions and construct an airplane and attempt at least one flight.
Week five we will introduce rocket propulsion. We will learn about the center of mass and various ways it can be shifted. Students will be able to describe how rocket flight and airplanes are similar and how they are different.

What's your teaching style?
I love to explain a new topic with videos and slides and then get the students involved in something hands on relating to what we just learned like a game, STEM project, simple experiment or demonstration.

How much will learners get to interact with you and each other? I will be posting in the Outschool classroom and also creating a class Flipgrid. I will teach with video clips, discussion questions, slides and demonstrations.

Any required experience or knowledge learners need? No

学習到達目標

教師の専門知識と資格
I teach classes that are rich with activities and/or discussion and quickly allow students to apply what they were taught. I have a wide array of teaching experience from teaching for graduate programs to teaching for elementary age students to now homeschooling my four children. I want my students to love learning and teach children that they are capable of accomplishing their goals even if they are young in age.
