How do we navigate social relationships? Interpersonal relationships are studied by all types of psychologists. We will work on understanding social relationships from neurological, social, cultural, and clinical points of view. Each week will have a theme. I will discuss current psychological research (see sources) and use real-life examples to explain theories. We will also play a review game at the end of class. Week of March 3rd: What happens in our brain when we hang out with friends? Week of March 10th: Does Your Personality Impact Who You Become Friends With? Week of March 17th: The Role of Culture and Friendship Week of March 24th: How Important is Communication in Friendship? Week of March 31st: The Use of Technology and Friendship Week of April 7th: Social Media: Pros & Cons Week of April 14th: The Importance of Friendship in Managing Stress Week of April 21st: NO CLASS Week of April 28th: How Should We Handle Conflict in Friendship? Week of May 5th: The Benefits of Diversity in Friendship Week of May 12th: Disorders Related to Interpersonal Difficulties Week of May 19th: The Connection Between Narcissism and Friendship Week of May 26th: Research on Bullying
