Executive Functioning (EF) skills are mental thinking skills. They help us organize, manage time, think flexibly, handle big emotions, and so much more. It takes learning and practice to support these type of skills. Although many individuals with ADHD struggle with EF skills, all young people can use support gaining knowledge in these areas. Experiencing life as a neurodivergent teacher allows me a unique ability to understand learners who struggle with EF skills (and ADHD). Many of the EF skill areas are parts of my daily life that I continue to implement, and assess strategies in. We may never "master" these skills but we can continue to understand our abilities and focus on what we can employ to support our continued growth. In this 1-on-1 class, we will work together to review the learner's challenging skill areas, devise a plan and reflect, then assess. Learners may have homework to complete throughout the week, based on the specific goal(s) set with the teacher. Learners are encouraged to bring their work (academic or other), and any planners or other devices they are currently using (or trying to implement) to class. This class is listed as ongoing. Based on a conversation with learner and family, we can plan for a set amount of weeks or we can take it week by week, based on weekly reflection. A 3 week minimum is encouraged in order to build a rapport and be impactful. The first class will establish areas of need based on a EF questionnaire and learner and teacher conversation. *Please note, in order for this class to really help learners, the learner needs to be open to what their area(s) of need are/may be, and be willing to try new strategies that learner and teacher discuss. When learners are adamant that "everything is great" we cannot impactfully move forward.
学習到達目標
