This class is a great way to learn more about painting with acrylic paint in a low stress and creativity fostering environment. Learners will get the chance to practice several different painting and brush techniques. They will learn about color blending, the use of dark and light, shadow effects, organic shapes, symmetry, and even abstract concepts. Learners will also hear growth mindset language throughout the class as I paint, especially my favorite saying: "Practice makes progress." I encourage the Learners to just let the creativity flow and not to focus so much on perfection. We can always turn a mistake into something new!

In this class we also make use of Art as a means of gaining creative skills and understanding concepts to improve problem solving skills and think of creative solutions. I often mention concepts of geometry, science, structure, and more as we talk about what we are painting. These skills are an important part of S.T.E.A.M. education.

Learners can interact with each other through some conversation prompts each week, as well as through spontaneous conversation. Learners are encouraged to ask questions, and may generally stay unmuted as long as there is not a lot of background noise.

Every week at the end of class we will vote on the painting for the next week based on the options listed. Learners may join the class at any time! As this is an ongoing class, I will add dates and paintings to the schedule as the class continues.

Learners do not need to have prior experience with painting. I will be taking it step-by-step and pausing for questions or clarification throughout. It is important to encourage your Learners to ask questions if they need to, and to remember that art is unique. It is always fun to see how different all of the paintings turn out to be. Learners are encouraged to upload a picture of their paintings after class to show off their unique artwork!

**Class time may go over or under time by a few minutes depending on class interaction and Learners skill levels**

*A note about the Saturday section: The Saturday section may have one week per month that they do not meet if I need to travel or go to an event. If there is a week that will be missed, I will announce it in the classroom and that date will be removed from your Learner's schedule at least one week beforehand. Some weeks will not be on the schedule at all if I know in advance, so it is always good to check the schedule. For the week that is missed, we will vote on completing the next week's planned painting.

Parental supervision or guidance is suggested for inexperienced or younger Learners. Acrylic paint will wash off of skin and surfaces such as tables, but it will stain clothing. It is suggested that your Learner wear clothing that you don't mind getting paint on, and that your Learner is in an area that can be wiped down. I suggest putting newspaper or paper towels under the area where your Learner will paint in case of spills.
受講に必要なもの
Happy Little Acrylic Art Painting Club Supply List
PAINT
-Acrylic Paint in a Variety of Colors: I recommend a variety pack to start with, or at least the primary colors and some neutral colors. Students sometimes have favorites, and they can always add to their paint supply as they find what they like.
-OPTIONAL: Pearl colors, metallic colors, glitter colors. Sometimes I will use these in a painting, but there is usually an alternative if Learners do not have them.

BRUSHES
-Paint brushes in various sizes: everything from very fine size 1/8 to larger size 10. Most of the time I recommend using flat or filbert style brushes. The ones I use most often are:
Brushes: Coverage brush (size 10 or larger filbert. size 3/4 or larger flat); small brush (size 0 - 2, flat or filbert), detail brush (10/0 line or similar)
- a sponge brush or craft sponge
- a toothbrush just for painting

CANVASES/PAPER
-Canvases: any size 11 x 14 or smaller should be fine. Usually Learners can adjust for square or rectangular canvases. For some paintings, I may suggest smaller canvases. The smallest that I ever work with is 4 x 4.
*OR*
-As an alternative to using a canvas, painters may choose to paint on mixed media paper or other thick painting paper. That is perfectly fine as well! Some painters prefer canvas, and some prefer paper. It is really up to you! If you have larger painting paper, I do recommend cutting it to a smaller size for quicker painting and drying.

OPTIONAL
- a hairdryer to help the painting dry faster so that painters do not have to wait for their painting to dry between steps.

***ARTIST RECOMMENDATIONS***
PAINT: I recommend using the brands Liquitex or Arteza for your paint as the quality is a little better, but they are still priced well. Brands such as Craftsmart are okay too, but they are a little thinner and sometimes require more paint when making your masterpiece.
**Your learner may use different styles of paint (tempera, craft, washable, etc.), but be aware that different types of paint do not always work the same way. If different styles are used, the results will vary.**
CANVASES/PAPER: There are many good canvases and thick papers that you can choose from. The basic sets from the art supply store are usually good! You can usually find the paint, brushes, paper, and canvases at Michael's or JoAnn's. Amazon and some other online sites have some supplies as well, but please allow time for shipping if you choose to shop online.

I have been painting and creating artwork for many years. I have also been teaching elementary school aged kids for over four years. I have used acrylic paints with my students in my own classroom, and I have taught children and adults how to paint different pictures at in person parties.
