"Your mind is a garden and books are the seeds, so pick a favorite, and bloom as you read!" This class will examine the historical semi-fictional novel, "A Paradise Called Texas," over the course of five weeks. We will examine vocabulary and comprehension questions from each chapter, but also dive into the world Shefelman created with history and geography enrichment activities too. Discussion questions will be posted for class collaboration on the board after each session, as well as, further enrichment activities and research topics. This is a delightful classic that will enthrall and enchant those who read it! Late Enrollment: Your learner will not miss any class content by "enrolling late." This simply means there will be videos waiting for your learner to watch when they join the class. It must be noted that while this book is invaluable for his historical content and perspectives on Texas colonization, some sensitive topics that will be addressed throughout the course including but not limited to: family death due to sickness and one-sided view of indigenous peoples of Texas. We will be noting and discussing these things during the conversation parts of the course. I have a M.A. in U.S. History with my thesis being on Native American studies. I believe in offering a multi-sided perspective in historical accounts. I am also a licensed elementary educator and have utilized this book study in the classroom during our Texas History lessons.

Hello from Texas! Although I am currently residing in Texas, we move quite often and that has allowed me to have many different types of career experiences. I have tutored privately and through well-known organizations; taught in the public school classroom setting with a self-contained classroom (including 4th grade and Texas History); substituted and interned in private school classroom settings; instructed at the community college level (History); assisted with museum operations; and homeschooled my three munchkins. I have worked with early education all the way up to the community college level. My Bachelors is in childhood education with a Master's in American History.
