Godzilla might be the best-known movie monster, but he was far from the first. In this class, we will explore the early monster films that started it all, as well as some kaiju era non-Godzilla films and contemporary and modern classics from around the world. We will learn about monsters on the silver screen with a mixture of slides, short video clips, and discussion. Films to include: Die Nibelungen: Siegfried (Fritz Lang, 1924) Frankenstein (James Whale, 1931) The Beast From 20000 Fathoms...
Many of the films discussed hold ratings of PG-13. Short video clips sourced from youtube will be shared via my screen for each film listed in the class description. These clips will be free from language and otherwise inappropriate content but will likely depict a level of violence and/or gore indicative of monster movies.
