 Week 1
Lesson 1
Facial Proportions
Students will understand the fundamentals of basic head constructions and facial mapping using the Loomis method.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Head Angles
Students will learn how to envision the human head, to draw its structure accurately from any perspective keeping the volume and shape consistent with the position of the head.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Eye Construction & Perspectives
Students will use the concept of a sphere to organize and interpret the perspectives of the eye and accurately portray the soft structures around it.
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Nose Construction & Perspectives
Students will start with geometric forms, adding spheres for the nostrils, and then make the form realistic using shading to render tone and form.
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Mouth Construction and Expressions
Students will start with understanding the basic shapes that make up the lips, how to manipulate them to capture their expressions and they will make them realistic through the use of shading to render tone and form.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Ear & Hair Construction and Perspectives
Students will return to the form of the head, locating the ears, understanding its forms from different angles. They will explore how hair is added and touch upon the shading needed to render lighting and texture.
 Week 7
Lesson 7
Anatomy of Expressions
Students will use the Reilly Method to locate the planes of muscle in the face, and then adjust them to properly create a variety of expressions. They will draw a full portrait.
 Week 8
Lesson 8
Portrait Study
Students will encapsulate all of the knowledge learned in the prior weeks to draw a portrait with a realistic expression.
Students will master the principles of portrait anatomy, covering topics such as facial proportions, expressions, and structural details. Through hands-on instruction and practice, they will develop the skills to create lifelike portraits using various shading techniques, culminating in confident rendering of human faces with photorealistic qualities.
Teacher Brittany is a professional artist and illustrator.  She holds a BA in Arts with a concentration on Visual Technology.  She also gained valuable industry experience as Technology Lead and Animation Instructor at art schools. She has worked as a freelance concept artist and illustrator in game design. She utilizes a background in comics, storyboarding and animation to bring creative concepts to life. With a strong background in traditional and digital painting, Brittany is currently teaching a wide variety of classes in various mediums to merge her love for illustration, painting and game development.

Teacher Allie May is a contemporary artist who loves to indulge in all mediums, but focuses most on drawing and painting. She is a graduate student in the BFA program at California State University Long Beach, and aims to pursue a career in teaching art. Her art influence began at a young age, but she considers herself “self-taught.” Allie is passionate about encouraging students to master the fundamental skills and technical aspects of creating, but also develop a style that is unique to each student. Her promise is to encourage a mindset where students are confident in themselves and their ability to create.

An E-Certificate of Completion with grades will be provided for learners who have completed all weeks of the class. For learners who miss more than 3 times during the course, no certificate will be offered.
