Welcome! In this 7 week course you will have the opportunity to cover the main topics of what you would learn in a whole year of High School Spanish. This is a rapid review of mainly grammar concepts learned over the course of the year. It would be great to use this course as a review of a course already taken, or as an introduction to a course that you are planning on taking, either path is guaranteed to help increase your confidence in Spanish. This is not a complete course, we will not focus on vocabulary or culture like I do in my complete semester courses, therefore this does not qualify for a Spanish credit. If needed I can provide a certificate of completion at the end of the course, however due to the content and rapid approach no grades will be provided. We will meet 2 times a week for 7 weeks and each week will focus on one of the main 7 grammar topics. Each week students will receive a Google Slides presentation that will include everything we cover in class. The presentation will include vocabulary that is essential for the week (most times related to the listening activity video), however we will not take a lot of time focusing on the vocabulary section and spend more time on grammar. The first meeting of the week will be lecture style, I will go over the presentation in detail and sometimes use short videos or songs from YouTube to help engage students and further explain topics. I intentionally use song videos that sometimes may be intended for a younger audience, this is because these songs are quick, catchy and usually have a rhyme or rhythm and leads to a quicker acquisition and memorization of the language. Students will also listen to a video (2-4 minutes long) each week by native Spanish speakers from around the world that will be followed by a few questions related to the video. The questions will be discussed during the second meeting. The second meeting of the week will be the interactive meeting. During this meetings students will use the concepts they learned on the first day to speak, write and play games. During this meeting I will use fill in the blank activities from the presentation, Quizzez, Wordwall and Blooket. We will also use the listening activity video again during this meeting to complete the discussion questions. I will make sure that students are able to all have opportunities to speak however I do always ask for volunteers instead of forcing participation when a student is not ready. I will also use the Zoom chat box for students to send in responses that I can check before they share them with the class. I try to create a very welcome and safe class environment. I will never put a student on the spot, call them out in front of the class for a wrong answer or allow any embarrassing comments from fellow students. If a student is called on and is unsure of an answer I will walk the student through the answer until they ultimately are able to give the correct response. My teaching style is laid back and most of the time if a student comes into the class apprehensive they end up feeling confident by the end and enjoying their time in Spanish! This class is a little more faced paced than your average semester long course due to the amount of material covered. There will be small homework assignments each week that the student can use as a way to practice the material on the presentation. Assignments will be reviewed the first day of the following week so that students can check their answers and ask any questions. Weekly Schedule: Week 1: Ser vs Estar, Phrases with Tener, Spanish Negatives Week 2: Indirect and Direct Object Pronouns Week 3: Informal and Formal Commands Week 4: Reflexive Verbs Week 5: Verbs Like Gustar Week 6: Preterite and Imperfect and Irregulars Week 7: Ir + A and Future Tense
