Follows Teacher-Created Curriculum
Aligned with Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
2 units//16 lessons//8 Weeks
Unit 1Number System
6 lessons3 Weeks
Number System
 Week 1
Lesson 1
1st Quarter Review
Review topics covered in the first quarter.
Lesson 2
Coordinate plane with all 4 quadrants
Solve real-world and mathematical problems by graphing points in all four quadrants of the coordinate plane. Include use of coordinates and absolute value to find distances between points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate.
 Week 2
Lesson 3
Exponents
Write and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole-number exponents.
Lesson 4
Scientific notation
Understand scientific notation and convert between scientific notation and standard notation.
 Week 3
Lesson 5
Order of operations
Solve real-world and mathematical problems involving the four operations with whole and rational numbers.
Lesson 6
Number properties
Use number properties to improve number sense and mental math.
Unit 2Expressions and Equations
10 lessons5 Weeks
Expressions and Equations
 Week 4
Lesson 7
Understand expressions
Write, read, and evaluate expressions in which letters stand for numbers.
Lesson 8
Evaluate expressions
Understand solving an equation as a process of answering a question: which values from a specified set, if any, make the equation true? Use substitution to determine whether a given number in a specified set makes an equation true.
 Week 5
Lesson 9
Solve one-step equations
Solve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations of the form x + p = q and px = q for cases in which p, q, and x are all nonnegative rational numbers.
Lesson 10
Write and solve equations from real-world problems
Use variables to represent numbers and write expressions when solving a real-world or mathematical problem. Understand that a variable can represent an unknown number or, depending on the purpose at hand, any number in a specified set.
 Week 6
Lesson 11
Generate & identify equivalent expressions
Identify when two expressions are equivalent. Apply the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.
Lesson 12
Generate & identify equivalent expressions
Identify when two expressions are equivalent. Apply the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.
 Week 7
Lesson 13
Write & graph inequalities
Write an inequality of the form x > c or x < c to represent a constraint or condition in a real-world or mathematical problem. Recognize that inequalities of the form x > c or x < c have infinitely many solutions; represent solutions of such inequalities on number line diagrams.
Lesson 14
Inequalities word problems
Understand solving an inequality as a process of answering a question: which values from a specified set, if any, make the inequality true? Use substitution to determine whether a given number in a specified set makes an inequality true.
 Week 8
Lesson 15
Independent & dependent variables
Use variables to represent two quantities in a real-world problem that change in relationship to one another; write an equation to express one quantity, thought of as the dependent variable, in terms of the other quantity, thought of as the independent variable. Analyze the relationship between the dependent and independent variables using graphs and tables, and relate these to the equation.
Lesson 16
Mixed word problems
Apply topics learned in this quarter to solve real-world problems.
Students will apply and extend previous understandings of arithmetic to algebraic expressions. Students will solve one-variable equations and inequalities. Students will represent and analyze quantitative relationships between dependent and independent variables.
宿題が提供されます
I will provide 5-10 example problems for homework after each class. This is voluntary and will be reviewed at the beginning of the next class. If a student is struggling, they can post their concerns on the classroom wall for more clarification. Homework should not take more than 15 minutes per assignment.
評価が提供されます
I will assess students in class based on their participation and homework (if they do their homework). Students will also have occasional quizzes. I can also provide a progress report at the end of the course. Please let me know if you would like a letter grade for this class.
成績が提供されます
Students need to have taken 5th grade math or have been tested on a 6th grade level.
Students should have a math journal to keep their notes in and solve example problems. A printer would be beneficial for notes, but is not required.
