This class is interactive, where I will break concepts down and check for understanding throughout the class. I scaffold and adjust my pacing to suit the needs of the students. I will use visuals, mnemonics, real-world examples, discussion, guided notes, and games to ensure a deep understanding. Student participation is expected. I strive to make learning fun and instill confidence in the student. My classroom is more than a place to learn conversions and formulas; it is a safe, supportive...

Unit 1Number SystemNumber System6 lessons3 WeeksWeek 1Lesson 11st Quarter ReviewReview topics covered in the first quarter.Lesson 2Coordinate plane with all 4 quadrantsSolve real-world and mathematical problems by graphing points in all four quadrants of the coordinate plane. Include use of coordinates and absolute value to find distances between points with the same first coordinate or the same second coordinate.Week 2Lesson 3ExponentsWrite and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole-number exponents.Lesson 4Scientific notationUnderstand scientific notation and convert between scientific notation and standard notation.Week 3Lesson 5Order of operationsSolve real-world and mathematical problems involving the four operations with whole and rational numbers.Lesson 6Number propertiesUse number properties to improve number sense and mental math.Unit 2Expressions and EquationsExpressions and Equations10 lessons5 WeeksWeek 4Lesson 7Understand expressionsWrite, read, and evaluate expressions in which letters stand for numbers.Lesson 8Evaluate expressionsUnderstand solving an equation as a process of answering a question: which values from a specified set, if any, make the equation true? Use substitution to determine whether a given number in a specified set makes an equation true.Week 5Lesson 9Solve one-step equationsSolve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations of the form x + p = q and px = q for cases in which p, q, and x are all nonnegative rational numbers.Lesson 10Write and solve equations from real-world problemsUse variables to represent numbers and write expressions when solving a real-world or mathematical problem. Understand that a variable can represent an unknown number or, depending on the purpose at hand, any number in a specified set.Week 6Lesson 11Generate & identify equivalent expressionsIdentify when two expressions are equivalent. Apply the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.Lesson 12Generate & identify equivalent expressionsIdentify when two expressions are equivalent. Apply the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.Week 7Lesson 13Write & graph inequalitiesWrite an inequality of the form x > c or x < c to represent a constraint or condition in a real-world or mathematical problem. Recognize that inequalities of the form x > c or x < c have infinitely many solutions; represent solutions of such inequalities on number line diagrams.Lesson 14Inequalities word problemsUnderstand solving an inequality as a process of answering a question: which values from a specified set, if any, make the inequality true? Use substitution to determine whether a given number in a specified set makes an inequality true.Week 8Lesson 15Independent & dependent variablesUse variables to represent two quantities in a real-world problem that change in relationship to one another; write an equation to express one quantity, thought of as the dependent variable, in terms of the other quantity, thought of as the independent variable. Analyze the relationship between the dependent and independent variables using graphs and tables, and relate these to the equation.Lesson 16Mixed word problemsApply topics learned in this quarter to solve real-world problems.
Students will apply and extend previous understandings of arithmetic to algebraic expressions. Students will solve one-variable equations and inequalities. Students will represent and analyze quantitative relationships between dependent and independent variables.
宿題が提供されます
I will provide 5-10 example problems for homework after each class. This is voluntary and will be reviewed at the beginning of the next class. If a student is struggling, they can post their concerns on the classroom wall for more clarification. Homework should not take more than 15 minutes per assignment.評価が提供されます
I will assess students in class based on their participation and homework (if they do their homework). Students will also have occasional quizzes. I can also provide a progress report at the end of the course. Please let me know if you would like a letter grade for this class.成績が提供されます
Students need to have taken 5th grade math or have been tested on a 6th grade level.
Students should have a math journal to keep their notes in and solve example problems. A printer would be beneficial for notes, but is not required.
My classroom is a safe, supportive environment where students learn communication, social, and problem-solving skills. Every child can succeed with guidance and encouragement. I am passionate about math. I know a lot of tricks and mnemonics to...
