This course is for students who want a personal connection with a consistent teacher and group of students while still working at their own pace. All lessons are planned through a backwards design, with standards guiding the topics. Instruction is interactive whenever possible.

This course meets live two times a week to introduce new topics, touch base with students on previous instruction, answer questions regarding current lessons, and serve for a social time for the students.

**New! Students will also have access to IXL for practice and assessment***

I hold a strong belief that we learn when we are emotionally invested. By creating an environment that is focused on student intrapersonal relationships, understanding of the content comes more easily and is much more enjoyable.

Beyond the two live lessons, students will have access to videos and documents outlining a more detailed lesson, allowing us to focus our class time on discussions and connections. These videos and assignments can be done at the learner's own pace. I will be available in between classes for clarification as well.

Students should already have a solid understanding of multiplication and division facts in order to be successful in this class.

The weekly model will look like the following:

Day 1:
During Class
Students receive instruction in math (standards covered outlined below)
Students are able to discuss topics live with teacher and fellow classmates
Follow up lessons will be available in video format students can view at their own pace that week

In Between Classes:
Students will:
--Watch assigned videos
--Complete assignments and turn them in
Teacher will:
--Grade assignments
--Offer feedback

Day 2:
Students receive instruction in math (standards covered outlined below)
Students are able to discuss topics LIVE with teacher and fellow classmates
Follow up lessons will be available in video format students can view at their own pace that week

Number Sense with Whole Numbers:
Understand the place value system.
---understand how multiplying and dividing by 10 moves a decimal place
---use whole-number exponents to denote powers of 10
---Read, write, and compare decimals to thousandths (using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form)
---Use place value understanding to round decimals to any place.
---Fluently multiply multi-digit whole numbers using the standard algorithm.
---Divide using four-digit dividends and two-digit divisors
---Add, subtract, multiply, and divide decimals to hundredths

Numbers Sense with Fractions:
---Use equivalent fractions as a strategy to add and subtract fractions.
---Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators (including mixed numbers)
---Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole
---Interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator (a/b = a ÷ b).
---Interpret the product (a/b) × q as a parts of a partition of q into b equal parts
---Find the area of a rectangle with fractional side lengths by tiling it with unit squares of the appropriate unit fraction side lengths, and show that the area is the same as would be found by multiplying the side lengths
---Comparing the size of a product to the size of one factor on the basis of the size of the other factor, using mental math
---Multiply a given number by a fraction and by a mixed number (and explain why the product of the former is smaller and the latter is greater)
---Solve real world problems involving multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers
---Divide unit fractions by whole numbers and whole numbers by unit fractions.1
---Division of a unit fraction by a non-zero whole number
---Division of a whole number by a unit fraction

Measurement and Data:
---Convert like measurement units within a given measurement system.
---Make a line plot to display a data set of measurements in fractions of a unit (1/2, 1/4, 1/8).
---Recognize volume as an attribute of solid figures and understand concepts of volume measurement.
---Measure volumes by counting unit cubes, using cubic cm, cubic in, cubic ft, and improvised units.
---Solve real world and mathematical problems using multiplication and division involving volume.
---Find the volume of a right rectangular prism with whole-number side lengths
---Apply the formulas V = l × w × h and V = b × h for rectangular prisms to find volumes

Geometry:
---Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, called axes, to define a coordinate system
---Graphing points in the first quadrant of the coordinate plane, and interpret coordinate values of points in the context of the situation.
---Classify two-dimensional figures into categories based on their properties.
---Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two-dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category. For example, all rectangles have four right angles and squares are rectangles, so all squares have four right angles.
---Classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties.
学習到達目標
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.MD.C.5.C
Recognize volume as additive. Find volumes of solid figures composed of two non-overlapping right rectangular prisms by adding the volumes of the non-overlapping parts, applying this technique to solve real world problems.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.MD.C.5.B
Apply the formulas V = l × w × h and V = b × h for rectangular prisms to find volumes of right rectangular prisms with whole-number edge lengths in the context of solving real world and mathematical problems.

受講に必要なもの
The students should have a math notebook available to take notes and do practice problems during each class.
Students can either use a .5-1in binder or a spiral notebook.

For practice I give the kids worksheets or assign them lessons on Education.com or Boom Cards
For additional resources during the week, I might assign lessons on Khan but this does not replace my instruction and is only meant to support our learning.
