Unit 1Operations and Algebraic Thinking
4 lessons2 Weeks
Operations and Algebraic Thinking
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Order of Operations
Use parentheses, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions with these symbols.
Lesson 2
Interpret numerical expressions
Write simple expressions that record calculations with numbers and interpret numerical expressions without evaluating them.
 Week 2
Lesson 3
Understand expressions
Use variables to write algebraic expressions
Lesson 4
Evaluate expressions
Write simple expressions that record calculations with numbers. Use parentheses, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions with these symbols.
Unit 2Number and Operations-Fractions
12 lessons6 Weeks
Number and Operations-Fractions
 Week 3
Lesson 5
Factors
Find the factors of a number using divisibility rules and identify the Greatest Common Factor of two numbers.
Lesson 6
Multiples
Use number sense to find the multiples of a number and identify the Least Common Multiple of two numbers.
 Week 4
Lesson 7
Understand fractions
Use models and real-world scenarios to interpret, write, and model fractions.
Lesson 8
Simplify fractions
Use divisibility rules to reduce fractions to their simplest form.
 Week 5
Lesson 9
Convert fractions
Convert fractions to and from mixed numbers, improper form, and decimals.
Lesson 10
Add and subtract fractions
Add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators by replacing given fractions with equivalent fractions in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of fractions with like denominators.
 Week 6
Lesson 11
Multiply fractions
Apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication to multiply a fraction or whole number by a fraction.
Lesson 12
Divide fractions
Interpret a fraction as division of the numerator by the denominator (a/b = a ÷ b). Solve word problems involving division of whole numbers leading to answers in the form of fractions or mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem.
 Week 7
Lesson 13
Add and subtract mixed numbers
Add and subtract mixed numbers with unlike denominators by replacing given fractions with equivalent mixed numbers in such a way as to produce an equivalent sum or difference of mixed numbers with like denominators.
Lesson 14
Multiply & divide mixed numbers
Solve real-world problems involving multiplication of fractions and mixed numbers, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem.
 Week 8
Lesson 15
Compare & order fractions
Compare and order fractions using one of the three methods: Convert to decimals, find the common denominators, or cross multiply.
Lesson 16
Fractions application
Solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of fractions referring to the same whole, including cases of unlike denominators, e.g., by using visual fraction models or equations to represent the problem. Use benchmark fractions and number sense of fractions to estimate mentally and assess the reasonableness of answers.
Students will write and interpret numerical expressions. Students will analyze patterns and relationships. Students will use equivalent fractions as a strategy to add and subtract fractions. Students will apply and extend previous understandings of multiplication and division to multiply and divide fractions.
宿題が提供されます
I will provide 5-10 example problems for homework after each class. This is voluntary and will be reviewed at the beginning of the next class. If a student is struggling, they can post their concerns on the classroom wall or message me privately for more clarification. Homework should not take more than 15 minutes per assignment.
評価が提供されます
I will assess students in class based on their participation and homework (if they do their homework). Students will also have occasional quizzes. I can also provide a progress report at the end of the course. Please let me know if you would like a letter grade for this class.
成績が提供されます
Students should have a math journal to keep their notes in and solve example problems. A printer would be beneficial for notes, but is not required.
